Is Henry Cavill Still Superman?

Has the Man of Steel relinquished the red cape?

Henry Cavill is no longer Superman.

Zack Snyder’s divisive vision of the DC Universe appears to have claimed another casualty. In the wake of the Ben Affleck Batman fiasco, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that talks between Warner Bros and Henry Cavill have broken down amidst scheduling conflicts for a cameo in the upcoming blockbuster Shazam.

As a result, the actor has walked away from the role of Superman, a title he has held since the 2013 blockbuster, Man of Steel. This coincides with Warner Bros’ eagerness to press the reset button on the DCEU in favour of focussing their efforts on a fresh approach.

Updated: Is Henry Cavill Still Superman?

Furthermore, Ben Affleck’s on-off love affair with Batman appears to be reaching its climax with the actor not expected to reprise his role in Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated movie The Batman. Therefore, fans are facing the prospect of a new look landscape when Batman and Superman finally make their returns to the franchise. However, with Warner Bros pushing ahead with Superman prequel Supergirl, don’t expect the man of steel to make his bow in the near future.

Stay tuned Superman fans!

Update:

In the hours that followed this news, Warner Bros moved quickly to support Cavill’s agent in solidifying their position by releasing the following statement:

“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”

So, where does this leave Henry Cavill in the DC Universe? Is this the end of the story? Is Cavill still our Superman?! This statement would seem to debunk the rumours surrounding his departure…but in Hollywood, stranger things have happened!
