Oscar Isaac | Episode IX Will Be The Definitive Conclusion to the Skywalker Saga

The Skywalker saga has been one of the most predominant storylines of the Hollywood landscape for the better part of five decades. Beginning with Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977, we were introduced to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), a young farm boy who, over the course of three thrilling movies would go on to play an instrumental role in the liberation of the entire galaxy.
Luke’s heritage would be enhanced further in 1999 with the launch of the prequel saga, a whole new trilogy of movies depicting the rise of his father, Anakin Skywalker and his eventual fall to the dark side. And in 2015, J.J Abrams rejuvenated the Skywalker lineage for his sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a seventh chapter in the story designed to regale us with the final entries of the Skywalker legacy.
And this year, the Skywalker saga reaches its climax.
We are now just months away from the arrival of Star Wars: Episode IX, and the fans’ appetite for information pertaining to the story has been insatiable. And, in true Lucasfilm fashion, the veil of secrecy surrounding the project has been in full effect…until now.
In a recent interview with The Today Show to promote Netflix’s highly anticipated Triple Frontier, Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron in the films) has confirmed that Star Wars: Episode IX will indeed be bringing the nine-film story to a definite conclusion.
It is the end of the entire Skywalker saga. Nine stories. This is the culmination of the thing. I think what J.J. Abrams has done, and really the whole Lucasfilm team is going to be incredibly fulfilling. It’s also special for us because you get to learn a lot more new things about these characters.
Isaac also spoke about the posthumous involvement of the late great Carrie Fisher who died shortly before the release of the previous instalment, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Fisher’s role will be completed using a series of deleted scenes from the previous two movies, but her involvement in the principle storyline is expected to be greatly reduced as a result. Moreover, her iconic and larger than life presence was definitely missed on set.
“We’ve thought about her so much. Her spirit’s there (in the film). Her daughter, Billie Lourd, came back to play a part. Her spirit was definitely there with us and we’re missing her.”
Star Wars: Episode IX is almost certain to be a bittersweet experience for the fans. However, with the news that The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson and Games of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are set to bring new adventures to the screen it would seem that Star Wars, like the force, will be with us for some time yet.
