Carl shares his reaction to the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer
Ok, I admit it, I can’t wait for December.
Star Wars Celebration Chicago and the Episode IX panel has just delivered what the fans have been clamouring for ever since The Last Jedi faded into Lucasfilm history, the title of the final episode of the saga.
Now the world knows the title, has seen the teaser trailer and can digest what has been unleashed to us. And of course, now the rumours and false truths will start to unload. However, what the panel has delivered has only raised my hopes and expectations for this saga closing movie.
The teaser trailer has done EXACTLY what it needed to do. It has enthralled us, surprised us and given us small snippets and crumbs to feed on until the next trailer arrives in a few months time.
I loved the opening with Rey igniting her lightsaber, running from an incoming T.I.E Silencer. The gloved hands on the controls lead us to believe its Kylo Ren flying towards her. Just at the last moment, Rey leaps, pivoting in the air to land BEHIND the ship. Or to land on it. Is it really Kylo Ren flying it? I believe this is a classic case of misdirection, making us believe this could be part of a final battle between Rey and Ren.
Luke Skywalker’s words accompany the whole trailer, haunting us just as the same voiceovers thrilled and haunted us with the previous two films in the saga. Bits and pieces of the new film are shown, the best, of course, is seeing Lando Calrissian behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon again, his first since the second Death Star attack.
Of course, the conjecture will soon start about the final shot of the trailer. What is it our heroes are looking at as the footage draws to a close? Could it be something new? A place our heroes need to reach in their quest for victory? Or is it, in reality, the remains of the destroyed Second Death Star?
And now for that shocking ending. I never saw it coming! I never believed that right at the end of the Skywalker saga The Emperor would make a reappearance!! We have yet to see him but his evil laughter over a blank screen send chills down our spines. The ultimate big bad in the Star Wars universe is back somehow. How? Does it really matter? HE’S BACK!!! This is just a teaser trailer. If they’ve revealed Palpatine returns in the final movie in the first teaser, what other shocks and surprises await us? Again, let the speculation commence.
The teaser was worth waiting for in my opinion. The anticipation has been building up to such a crescendo and now it’s been unleashed upon the world. J.J Abrams has now blown the lid off of the biggest secret this side of the film’s release. Finally, the world knows the title, has seen the teaser trailer and can now digest the gift that it’s been given.
Now, roll on December!!!
Until next time
“Only now, at the end, do you understand”
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will bring the Skywalker legacy to a bittersweet close on December 20th.
