Vin Diesel confirms WWE star turned actor John Cena will be in Furious 9
Actor/Producer and star of the ‘Fast & Furious‘ franchise, Vin Diesel has confirmed what several outlets have been reporting for a few days. WWE superstar and actor John Cena has been cast in an unknown role in the upcoming ‘Fast & Furious 9‘. Diesel announced the news via an Instagram post, talking to his family face to face before panning the camera around and landing on Cena at his side.
With Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham’s spin-off film ‘Hobbs And Shaw‘ hitting movie screens this August, both actors will be unavailable to be in the ninth instalment of the hit franchise so it’s logical that Diesel is looking to bring in some new blood to reinvigorate the film and give it serious box office potential. Adding to the fact is, if ‘Hobbs And Shaw‘ becomes a huge success, Johnson and Statham may decide to stick with that franchise instead of returning to ‘Furious‘ so Diesel is covering all the bases, just in case.
Cena is a decent enough actor and his comedic timing and comedic chops will come in handy for the new film. Not much else is known at this point about the film or the potential storyline or whomever else will be cast or returning this time around. If they decide, like I hope they do, to stick with Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood and the legend that is Kurt Russell and continue on the story ends left open at the end of ‘Furious 8‘, the film could yet again prove to be a winner.
Justin Lin, who directed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth entries in the franchise is returning again to the director’s chair, almost certainly keeping the franchise on its even keel and guaranteeing a satisfying if completely unlogical and crazy movie experience.
The film will open in the summer of 2020.
