Black Series Review| Clone Commander Obi-Wan Kenobi (Clone Wars) (EXCLUSIVE)

Thomas joins the fight against the Separatist Alliance with Hasbro’s new Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure

In the US, this Obi-Wan Kenobi figure inspired from the 2-D animated Clone Wars series will be a Walgreens exclusive and will be released in September. As for Europe, Hasbro originally imposed a street date for 1st September but it turns out it later allowed sites to sell the figure now.

Obi-Wan in Clone armor is the first figure we are getting from the Legends 2-D animated TV show Clone Wars and also the first Obi-Wan figure from Hasbro with the digital print tech! This sculpt is the same as the Obi-Wan Black Series figure that was released in 2014, but this time with an improved face and that makes all the difference. In terms of likeness it is great there is absolutely no doubt of that, it’s a better sculpt that Revenge Of The Sith Obi-Wan from S.H. Figuarts. However, it’s the digital print face that is at fault here. Somehow, Hasbro decided to add some reddish color, almost like brush makeup on Obi-Wan’s cheeks while the front head is normal skin-colored. So it does tamper the great sculpt they made, which is a shame!

Black Series Review | Clone Commander Obi-Wan Kenobi (Clone Wars) (EXCLUSIVE)

The body is a re-use of a Clone figure except they made a small hole in the belt to attach the lightsaber and they added a cape fabric and kama fabric. The fabric they used feels very cheap, it seems like it’s the same they used at the end of The Clone Wars 3.75 inch line, which wasn’t a great type of fabric. Considering they didn’t change anything of the Clone figure, Obi-Wan’s hand where he usually holds his lightsaber is actually a hand to hold a blaster so the lightsaber is a little bit floating in that hand. That’s the only thing they should have re-worked the hand because the sculpt in itself is simply amazing and rightly proportioned.

Speaking of the lightsaber, this figure also comes with a Black Series stand as well. The lightsaber is crafted in the usual plastic but silver paint used is truly awful and makes it look like it’s really cheap plastic.

This figure has 25 points of articulation.

Final Thoughts

The prototype photos of that figure looked a lot better than the final product. This figure is at the same time a hit and a miss. Overall it’s a great figure but there are some details that bother me like the hand where he holds the lightsaber and this weird brush makeup-like paint app on the cheeks.
