The Matrix 4 Announced | Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Returning!

Mr Anderson, Welcome Back! The Matrix 4 Announced.

Mark this one in the box marked ‘We didn’t see that coming’. It’s been announced that after 16 years since the last instalment, Warner Bros and Director/ co-writer/ creator Lana Wachowski are all set to make a fourth movie in ‘The Matrix‘ saga. In addition, it’s been revealed that original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will also be returning to the franchise.  The Warner Bros Group Pictures chairman, Toby Emmerich is quoted as saying:

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary-a singular and original filmmaker-and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

Lana Wachowski had this to add:

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends”

Lana Wachowski, alongside her directing duties, will write the new film alongside Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski will produce the film alongside Grant Hill. And as with the original trilogy of movies, Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and distribute the film globally.

During her appearance at this past July’s London Film And Comic-Con, Carrie-Anne Moss made no mention or even the slightest hint that a fourth ‘Matrix‘ film may be incoming. In addition, Keanu Reeves has played his cards extremely close to his chest regarding the new film, focusing on the upcoming third ‘Bill And Ted‘ movie and the fourth film in the ‘John Wick‘ franchise.

There is no word on whether Laurence Fishburne will also be returning for the new film as ‘Morpheus’, Hugo Weaving as ‘Agent Smith’ or any of the rest of the cast of the original trilogy or if composer Don Davis will be on scoring duties once again.

The Matrix 4 Announced | Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Returning!

To be honest with you, I really didn’t see a fourth film coming. And I most certainly didn’t even contemplate the return of Reeves and Moss if they did. If you remember the ‘Conclusion’ to the franchise, 2003s ‘The Matrix Revolutions‘, both Reeves and Moss’ characters died before the end credits so to hear they are both coming back is a surprise. It remains to be seen how the characters are resurrected for the new film and in what direction the movie will take. I just hope that this isn’t a ‘Passing of the torch’ film where the characters of Neo and Trinity are just brought back for the one film to set up another trilogy of films with a completely new cast of characters. That to me would be a cop-out and to be frank, an insult to the original trilogy. I think the original ‘Matrix‘ is one of the best films ever produced and is deserving of its place in Hollywood history. I enjoyed the second film ‘The Matrix Reloaded‘ as well but nowhere near as much as the first. As for the third film, thanks for coming but it felt completely flat to me. However, the action scenes are still to this day top-notch and all three films are great kick-ass entertainment in their own right.

We will bring you more on this developing story as it happens. Keep it tuned to The Future Of The Force for all the information regarding this surprising but exciting news.
