Hello everyone.

News is breaking all the time in the world of the movies. We at Future Of The Force always try and keep up with the news wires but sometimes, the news breaks late in the day and we sadly miss it due to the time differences around the world. But here today is the latest news from the world of Tinseltown.

FOTF Movie News | The Latest Buzz From Hollywood

A rumour has started to emerge regarding the new instalment in the ‘Halloween‘ franchise. It has been rumoured but not confirmed as yet that actor Anthony Michael Hall is joining the cast of the next film as the now grown-up Tommy Doyle. The character was the child that Laurie Strode was in charge of babysitting all the way back in the original 1978 movie. The character did make a return in the form of Paul Rudd in the sixth Halloween film, ‘The Curse Of Michael Myers‘. It was rumoured that Rudd was approached to take on the role again in next years film but sadly, due to his heavy schedule, the timings could not be worked out. Still, if the rumour does turn out to be true, it would make an excellent bridge between the original film and this new alternate timeline and would be another piece of bringing the Laurie/ Myers story full circle.

A new teaser spot for the upcoming ‘Rambo: Last Blood has made its bow. The new clip, although showing very little new footage has managed to build the anticipation for the new film up even higher. The film looks like it could be the violent end of the saga that the fans of the franchise are all hoping for. All will be revealed on September 20th.

Actress Viola Davis is set to play former first lady, Michelle Obama in an upcoming drama entitled ‘First Ladies‘ that is being fast-tracked at Showtime. Davis will also executive produce the series alongside the writer  Aaron Cooley who has been commissioned to write three screenplays for the drama. No other casting details have been revealed as of yet but we will keep you informed as and when they are.

Another rumour hitting the wires concerns the announced Max Landis directed remake of his father John Landis’ classic horror-comedy ‘An American Werewolf In London‘. The rumour is saying that the film will no longer happen and the project is pretty much dead in the water. No reasons have yet been given for the apparent cancellation of the project but again. if more facts become known, we will report them to you. On a personal note, I’m hoping this rumour turns out to be true, My opinion is that the film doesn’t need a remake. The original is a bonafide classic and should be left alone and any idea of remaking it should join the ranks of Escape From New York, Scarface and many other announced remakes in the trashcan.

Vin Diesel has posted a photo from the set of the currently filming ‘Fast And Furious 9‘. Diesel never lets the fans down, constantly posting photos and videos to his social media accounts to keep everyone in the loop. What marks this photo out as special is the fact it hints at the return of the character Brian O’Conner to the franchise. Diesel in the picture is pictured from the back alongside Cody Walker. Walker is the brother of the late actor Paul Walker, who played the character of Brian until his sad untimely death during the production of ‘Furious 7. Cody Walker filled in for his late brother after the film underwent a hiatus following his death with CGI replacing his face with Paul Walker’s in the final edit. Could the makers of the franchise be planning a return for the character by using Cody as Paul’s replacement and explaining away any facial differences somehow? To be honest with you, I really hope they don’t. Paul Walker’s ‘Fast & Furious‘ legacy should be left alone and intact. Bringing back his character of Brian to be played by someone else, even his own brother to me wouldn’t feel or fit right.

Production has wrapped on the long-gestating and long-awaited ‘Bill And Ted‘ movie. ‘Bill And Ted Face The Music‘ finished filming on August 24th according to co-writer Ed Soloman’s Twitter account. The film, once again starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter is scheduled for release on August 21st 2020.

Edward Furlong has opened up about his return as John Connor in the upcoming ‘Terminator: Dark Fate‘. Furlong’s film debut came all the way back in 1991s ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day‘ and marks a remarkable return after several years in the wilderness addressing personal issues. Furlong stated that he was Really happy to be doing it’ and went on to say:

“I’m not allowed to say anything, but yeah, yeah man. I mean It’s a small role but it’s, you know. I’m in there, man! I’m in there”

It will be great to see Furlong back in his iconic role once again, albeit briefly in the new sequel but it will bring a sense of continuity to the film and that can only help the film’s ambition to be ‘The true sequel to Terminator 2′.

And finally…

We have to end this report with the release of the footage shown during the recent Disney Expo event of the new and final ‘Episode’ film of the ‘Star Wars‘ franchise. ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker‘ doesn’t hit multiplexes until December 20th but the anticipation and excitement levels just went sky high. The new footage hints at a perfect ending for the saga and potentially the return of a familiar character to the franchise one final time.

New Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Poster Gives Us Our First Look at Emperor Palpatine

During the footage, we hear The Emperor speak once again but it’s what we hear after that which has dialled the excitement up. The breathing of Darth Vader is heard. Yes, the legendary Dark Lord Of The Sith might, just might be making an epic final cameo in this saga closer. We have all heard rumours pertaining to actor Hayden Christiansen being spotted on the set of the new film and the circulating whispers that the character of Anakin Skywalker would be making a ghostly appearance during the film, flitting between the human Jedi Knight and his evil alter ego as Darth Vader. While the sound of Vader breathing could be a case of classic misdirection (George Lucas did the same thing with a teaser for Episode II back in 2002), it could be a reason to get excited once again. Combined with the final shot of Rey dressed in a dark outfit, hooded and wielding a RED double-bladed lightsaber, the internet went into meltdown. I’m sorry to rain on the parade but hear me out. The dark Rey sequence will be just a vision or a throwback to ‘The Empire Strikes Back‘ and the cave sequence concerning Luke Skywalker.

Lucasfilm and J.J Abrams wouldn’t give such a vital plot point away just like that. Remember the teaser for ‘The Force Awakens‘ concerning Finn igniting the blue lightsaber? The world went crazy and various stories came out stating that Finn was the Jedi the title referred to. And how exactly did that play out? Classic misdirection again. However, the film looks completely amazing and with the reported news that composer John Williams has written 135 minutes of music so far for the film, it could be a case of this being the grandest, biggest and possibly best Star Wars film of them all.

Here is where I sign off for now but rest assured, as soon as any other breaking Hollywood stories hit the wires, you can read about them right here at The Future Of The Force.

Until Next Time.
