Thank the maker. The fans called for it, Ewan McGregor called for it and Lucasfilm finally agreed to it. Obi-Wan Kenobi is back, and he is heading to Disney+ for an all-new series. The announcement came at Disney’s D23 Expo and instantly sent the Star Wars community into delirium, and team Future of the Force was no different. But are we all on board for more adventures with Ewan McGregor’s Jedi Master? Join us as we share our reactions to this phenomenal news:

“Amazing Possibilities” | By Liam Bailey

The announcement of an Obi-Wan Kenobi show filled me with such relief and excitement. After speculation of a Kenobi project for years, it feels like a huge step forward now that it has actually been confirmed. I cannot wait to see Ewan returning as one of the most loved Star Wars characters and I am already thinking about all of the amazing possibilities that could come… personally, I’m hoping to see Qi’Ra pop up as she is linked to Darth Maul.

“I Am Through The Freaking Roof” | By  Annlyel James

Disney’s ultimate brand since the past century has been to make dreams come true. As a child, I would watch the end of Return of the Jedi and wish the story could continue. Disney made that dream come true with The Force Awakens. Then they started to make Star Wars Stories and I immediately began to hope (because Star Wars is all about hope) that they’d make an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars movie. This weekend just made that dream come true as well.

To say I’m excited about the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series is an understatement. I am through the freaking roof!!!! Now, all we have to wait for is the imminently incredible cast that will be joining him

“McGregor Will Exceed Our Expectations” | By Ami Tricker

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge Star Wars fan – I’ve seen parts of the films but not watched the films entirely. Having said that, learning that Ewan McGregor will be reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi did give me goosebumps! From what I’ve seen in the past, McGregor is a fantastic actor, therefore, I have no doubt he will exceed our expectations once again!

“I Can’t-Wait” | By Thomas Storai

Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan Kenobi … do I need to say more? That’s it, that’s the best news fans could have asked for. Nothing will ever top that in my opinion. And the rumor mill of is Ewan back as Obi-Wan finally ends, we finally have the answer! And he’s coming back for a series, that’s even better because that’s even more screentime! I can’t wait!

“I Can’t-Wait To See It” | By Carl Roberts

Of course, seeing Ewan McGregor stride out onto the stage was a massive highlight in its own right. The rumours have been swirling around like Tatooine sand for years, only to be constantly shot down and denied. Well, they can’t be denied any longer. We are getting the Obi-Wan Kenobi show we all wanted. McGregor is returning to the role he first played 20 years ago this very year. The show is set to reveal what Obi-Wan was doing in the years before ‘A New Hope’ begins and I can’t wait to see it.

My excitement, already on a high with The Mandalorian trailer and the reveal of the Cassian Andor series went into overdrive. No one would have even considered that 42 years after the original Star Wars made its bow, we would be all here today getting stoked for what delights the Star Wars universe has still to offer us. Thank you, Lucasfilm, thank you, Disney, and THANK YOU, Kathleen Kennedy! You’ve just made this 48-year-old feel like a kid again. And I love it!

“This Is One Of The Greatest Things Ever” | By The Mini-Mandalorian

Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan in his own tv series on Disney+! This is one of the greatest things ever. I have been waiting for many years for Obi-Wan to get his own tv series, and it’s finally happening.

In Star Wars: Rebels we saw a little bit of the great Jedi Master when he finally defeated Darth Maul after 25 years but now a whole show devoted to the pure awesomeness of Obi-Wan is just great. We can finally see what happened to Obi-Wan whilst he was protecting Luke Skywalker who was destined to become the galaxy’s “New Hope”

“I’m So Hyped For This Series” | By Darcie Gray

I have waited a long time to see more of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan. He wanted it to happen, the majority of the fans wanted it and we finally have confirmation that it’s happening. The prequel trilogy ended with the possibility of continuation and Solo: A Star Wars Story opened up the possibility further. I’m so hyped for this series and its potential. So, what are my theories for the Obi-Wan show: Darth Maul is certainly a contender for the main villain! I also think we will see Obi-Wan using the force to contact Qui-Gon Jinn which would be pretty awesome. Considering the series will be set after the events of Revenge of the Sith and before the events of A New Hope it is likely we will see some familiar faces from both the prequels, originals and Solo – this is something I am certainly looking forward to. I am expecting great things from this show and I really hope that by bridging the gap between the prequel and original trilogies, the prequels will get a little more of the love they deserve.

“I Couldn’t Help But Scream” | By Megan Rickards

As the Disney+ panel crept closer to its end and we kept getting Star Wars that was not about Obi-Wan Kenobi, I’ll admit that I actually gave up hope. I thought that if there was anything to be announced about that, there wasn’t enough time left in the panel. Once Kathleen Kennedy began teeing that final part up, the only thought going through my head was, ‘Oh if this isn’t about what I think it is, she will have one angry fan’. I had just enough time to think that before the music came on and Ewan McGregor came out, immediately confirming the speculation that had been floating around for months, if not a few years at this point.

As this final part continued and Ewan and Kathleen did their little routine, I couldn’t help but scream (beyond grateful I was home alone), as everyone else did as it was finally confirmed by Lucasfilm themselves. The speculation was over, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series is finally, officially happening and confirmed by the company! I like many fans couldn’t be happier…actually I could be if we were also told it was going to be released on Disney+ from day one, but that’s a story for another day.

The Return of Obi-Wan Kenobi | Our Reaction

“Just What The Medical Droid Ordered!” | By Brad Tracy

Since 1999, there have been endless debates among Star Wars fans regarding the Prequel Trilogy. Opinions of these films range anywhere from cringeworthy and wholly unnecessary to being the very favorite of some fans. There have even been debates about the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi. While some absolutely adore the Jedi Master, others have found him hypocritical and even blame him for the fall of Anakin Skywalker.

What has never been in question is the passion, energy and talent that Ewan McGregor has brought to the Star Wars universe. Before May of ‘99, there existed some doubt as to whether Ewan could “become Alec Guinness.” In the end he failed to do that in the best way imaginable. Not only did he meet the high standard of Sir Alec Guinness, but he also surpassed it and redefined this beloved character.

Ewan reprising his role as Obi-Wan is exactly what the SWU and its fans need right now. While Solo was extremely fun, not many really cared about our favorite smuggler’s backstory. Discovering how a defeated and anguished Jedi became a gentle, wise old hermit will be both gripping and entertaining. And knowing that Ewan will be at the helm is just what the medical droid ordered.

“The Force is Strong With Disney+” | By Phil Roberts

Hello there!

The wait is finally over. The news that Ewan McGregor is returning to the Star Wars universe is music to my ears. Like most fans, I have been craving more adventures alongside Obi-Wan and the twenty-year gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope has always been an enigma as far as story development goes. We all knew Kenobi settled on Tatooine to protect the young Luke Skywalker, but what adventures did he embark upon within that timeframe. How often did he commune with Qui-Gon Jinn? Did he have any more run-ins with the Empire? How much influence did he have over Luke’s upbringing? What was the cause of Owen Lars’ contempt of him? These are the questions I need answering.

Thankfully, Lucasfilm has finally succumbed to the pressure and Disney+ will be our destination for an entire series of Obi-Wan Kenobi action and I cannot wait. Thanks to Disney+ we get to bask in hours of fun, and with The Mandalorian and an all-new Cassian Andor series also heading our way the force is strong with Disney+. Sign me up!
