Breaking | Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Reach a Deal to Keep Spider-Man in the MCU

The two studios are once again working together to complete the Spider-Man trilogy
My Spider-Sense is tingling!
Spider-Man is back in business. After parting ways over the deal to keep our friendly neighbourhood wallcrawler in the MCU, Disney/Marvel and Sony Pictures have returned to the negotiations table and have struck a deal that will see Marvel produce one more Spider-Man film for Sony. The sequel will complete the Spider-Man Marvel trilogy and it even has a release date: July 16, 2021. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Amy Pascal will also produce via her Pascal Pictures label.
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said Marvel supremo Kevin Feige. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
“This is terrific. Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes,” said Pascal. “This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”
The particulars of the new deal have not revealed but the agreement will allow Kevin Feige to produce and maintain creative control over one more movie featuring Tom Holland’s beloved wallcrawler. Aside from the aforementioned sequel, the deal is expected to include one more outing in an untitled Avengers-style team-up movie.
This a glorious victory for the fans. Just when we thought the deal was dead and Spider-Man has been banished to languish in developmental hell back at Sony Pictures, common sense has prevailed and Spider-Man is back where he belongs. Hopefully, the deal can be extended beyond the announced two movie deal, but if this is, in fact, the last hurrah at least we can bid farewell to Spider-Man properly, and without leaving stories unfinished.
