John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan returns to Amazon Prime for an all-new series
The second season of Amazons winning version of Tom Clancy’s eponymous hero, ‘Jack Ryan’ has dropped a full day early. John Krasinski and Wendell Pierce once again lead the line in the new season after last years stellar first season, this time along with the talents of Noomi Rapace, Jordi Molla (Bad Boys II), Tom Wlaschiha (Game Of Thrones‘ Faceless Man) and Michael Kelly.
In this second season, Ryan (Krasinski) and Greer (Pierce) must once again come together to investigate strange goings-on in the jungles of Venezuela. As Ryan’s investigations threaten the Venezuelan President (Molla), a vicious counter-attack comes close to killing Ryan, leading to an international mission to unravel the President’s plot and to attempt to stabilise the country of Venezuela from the talons of his poisonous human-shaped threat.
I attempted to binge-watch the series last night but only managed to see the first four episodes but what I saw is an exciting, thrilling and completely enjoyable second season for the literary hero that Clancy created. The tension is building and I’m not lying when I say the season so far is possibly more violent than the first. It will be interesting and enjoyable to see where the series will go from here as it hurtles towards its conclusion.
Once again, Krasinski plays Ryan almost pitch perfectly, his vulnerabilities showing through on occasion but, as you will discover, he has steel in him and as the viewer will discover in one episode, finally shows the anger and quest for justice contained within him. Pierce as Greer is once again wonderful as the foil to Ryan. I wasn’t too happy with how they changed the character in the first season but I am more comfortable with his portrayal in this second series. Greer in the novels never left his desk as Deputy Director of Operations but in the show, he is a badass, going all out and doing what he has to do to get the job done. And it works, the two leads playing off each other is fantastic. The only thing I’m missing from the series is the inclusion of the character of John Clark. If they were to bring him into the show, then the series would be even more enjoyable. To the uninitiated, Clark is a former veteran that the CIA uses for nefarious black op missions and his inclusion in the series would make me extremely happy. Clark is a shadowy character and would fit in perfectly to the world of the show.
‘Jack Ryan’ Season 2 is available to stream and watch on Amazon Prime Now.
