Carl updates us on the latest news from Ghostbusters 2020, The Invisible Man, Fast & Furious 9, Doctor Sleep, Fantasy Island and the future of Captain America
Welcome to this FOTF movie news roundup. This article will bring you all a quick blast of the movie news coming out of the halls of Tinseltown. So, without further ado…
There was a shock winner at the top of the U.S box office this weekend as ‘Midway‘ took the top spot instead of the expected winner ‘Doctor Sleep‘. The film made $17.5million to become the new number one against the Stephen King horror sequel’s $14.1million. It is a shame to see ‘Doctor Sleep‘ underperform as the film is a really enjoyable and creepy horror/thriller compared to ‘Midway‘ and its CGI heavy action and, although enjoyable, plodding plot. Still, we all like what we like I guess!

The trailer for Blumhouse’s big-screen remake of ‘Fantasy Island‘ has been released, showing the film to be a suspense-filled horror movie instead of a light dramatic piece like the show it is based on. It seems the norm now that classic TV shows are remade for different genres. ‘Starsky and Hutch‘ was remade as a comedy instead of an action-packed cop film while ‘The Banana Splits‘ made its bow on DTV as a horror-comedy. What’s next? Dora The Explorer being made for the big-screen as an Indiana Jones type of family film? Oh, hang on, wait a minute…..
Actor Chris Evans has hinted that MAYBE somewhere down the line, he could return as the Marvel character of Captain America. We all know that Evans passed the shield over to Anthony Mackie’s character of Falcon at the end of this year’s record-breaking movie, ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ but in the comic-book world, no death or leaving is ever permanent as we all know. In my opinion, though, I think if Evans was to return, it would destroy the emotional payoff he had at the end of the film so would rather see him not return.
It has finally been confirmed that Bill Murray HAS returned to his iconic role of Dr Peter Venkman in the upcoming ‘Ghostbusters 2020‘. We have known for a while that Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson would be making appearances in the film but Murray’s participation was up in the air. Now the production of the film has wrapped, we can look forward to seeing almost all of the original cast return as their classic characters and probably pass the torch over to the next generation of ‘Busters.
‘Fast & Furious 9‘ has wrapped filming now too. Director Justin Lin confirmed the news on his Twitter account, revealing that the filming locations this time around included London, Edinburgh, Tbilisi in Georgia, Phuket and Krabi in Thailand and of course, Los Angeles. The crew, minus Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham this time around all return again, adding John Cena and Michael Rooker to proceedings for the penultimate film in the franchise.
And finally, after dropping the trailer for ‘The Invisible Man‘ earlier and ‘Fantasy Island‘ yesterday, Blumhouse has dropped the new posters for the films online alongside a new, Chinese poster for the upcoming horror remake ‘Black Christmas‘. Now, I’m looking forward to seeing ‘The Invisible Man‘ (The trailer looks incredible) and ‘Fantasy Island‘ (Ditto) but I’m completely disinterested in ‘Black Christmas‘. I’m a huge fan of the original film from 1974 and completely despise the 2006 remake. After viewing the trailer for this new version, I can honestly say that I don’t care for it at all. It looks terrible and is most certainly never going to match the class of the original movie. Still, I guess it will find its audience once it opens at the movie theatres.
And that’s all she wrote for this edition of the movie news. Make sure to check back here again soon as we once again roundup the latest buzz from Hollywood.
Until next time.
