Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will Introduce NEW Force Powers

The Rise Of Skywalker will give us plenty of new elements to add to the franchise

Sounds pretty straightforward, right?
Wrong! We are just over two weeks away from the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and all eyes are on J.J Abrams to deliver the mother of all Star Wars movies. The task of culminating the entire Skywalker saga originated by George Lucas back in 1977 is a daunting prospect, but Abrams is more than ready for the challenge. However, instead of playing it safe and ticking off elements from the traditional list of Star Wars tropes, Abrams will be pushing the envelope by incorporating new force powers that will infuriate some fans and thrill others.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the director elaborated on his grand plan for the culmination of the Skywalker saga and touched upon these controversial new force powers and their role in the movie.
“It was really important that we not just redo the things you’ve seen, but add new elements—which we knew will infuriate some people and thrill others,” Abrams said. “Among those things are not just new ways of doing sort of traditional, must-have sequences, whether it’s chases or lightsaber battles, or what have you. We wanted to make sure that this picture also showed aspects of the Force in ways that go beyond what you’ve seen before.”
Rian Johnson incorporated similar elements during The Last Jedi with the force connection between Rey and Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker’s unexpected force projection during the Battle of Crait, and Abrams is determined to expand further on these new elements.
“I can’t speak to what it means about the future of Star Wars, but what I can say is that you don’t want to come to this movie to see everything you’ve seen before. You want to come to it because you might love certain characters, and you want to see more of them. You might come to it because you love Star Wars and what it feels like, and what it looks like, what it sounds like. You want to see something that feels like it is moving, that it is shocking, that is also incredibly funny, that has got a big heart. But you want to make sure that you’re bringing elements that feel like it’s expanding the story, even as this brings it to a close.”
You see, things are never that simple in the galaxy far, far away…
Personally, I found Luke Skywalker’s “force projection” at the end of The Last Jedi to be a mind-blowing addition to what was otherwise a divisive attempt to expand the saga beyond its mandate. Some fans will be ready to accept these new additions with open arms, others will recoil in horror, but hopefully, J.J Abrams will deliver a fitting end to our beloved saga and reunite the fans before we set off on an entirely new adventure without the Skywalker’s.
The Rise of Skywalker culminates the saga from December 19th.
