Who will be victorious?
Looking at the nominations, we can expect to have almost no real surprises this year. Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger are shoo-in’s for awards for their performances for ‘Joker‘ and ‘Judy’ respectively as is Sam Mended for Best Director for 1917. Laura Dern should win best-supporting actress for ‘Marriage Story’ but don’t count out Margot Robbie as she keeps being nominated and surely has to win an Oscar sometime soon. I think Brad Pitt has the edge for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ as does Quentin Tarantino for best screenplay for the same film. Hilder Gudnadottir should win the best score award for ‘Joker’ but I would like to see John Williams win it for the final ‘Star Wars’ film but I may be slightly biased!
It is a shock to see the lack of a nomination for Taron Egerton for best actor for ‘Rocketman’ and Awkwafina as best actress for ‘The Farewell’ as well as the lack of nominations for Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out‘, a film that deserved more than it got.
