Disney Plus UK Launching One Week Early On March 24th

Disney to launch Disney Plus one-week earlier than previously expected in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland

Rejoice UK fans. We have some welcome news. Disney Plus is launching earlier than advertised – with a new March 24th release date that will see the all-new streaming service finally arrive on UK shores, as well as the majority of Europe.

Disney Plus UK Launch Price

Disney Plus launched in the Netherlands, US, Canada, and Australia in November of last year and the wait for fans living outside of these territories has been agonising. Not only have they been forced to look on in anguish as those lucky enough to have access have enjoyed a wealth of Disney content, but Star Wars fans have also been forced to miss out on the entire run of Jon Favreau’s landmark live-action TV series, The Mandalorian.

The release date change will come as a relief – if only a minor one. The platform was originally scheduled to launch on March 31st, meaning we all get to enjoy an abundance of Disney awesomeness one-week earlier than expected – but this will count as a welcome victory for the fans!

Thankfully, it’s not just the UK benefiting, either. Disney has confirmed that the date change also extends to Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland. Additional Western Europe markets, including Belgium, the Nordics, and Portugal, will follow in summer 2020. This is also the first time Disney has confirmed its pricing structure with a monthly rate of £5.99 or an annual rate of £59.99, which is pretty reasonable when compared to the standard package being offered by both Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Disney Plus UK Launch Details

In a time when delays are prevalent, this is welcome news. In the past, the UK has been forced to endure an agonising wait for Disney content. In the US, the final season of Star Wars: Rebels debuted several weeks ahead of the UK, and the latest animated series Star Wars: Resistance is currently being broadcast several weeks behind the US. Sadly, the release date change will not impact on the final series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The long-awaited finale is due to launch in the US on February 17th meaning fans in the UK and Europe will still miss out on all the fun. However, at least we get to see it one week earlier than previously thought.

It’s a small victory – but a welcome one.

Thank you, Disney!
