The X-Files Remastered

“The Truth is Out There” … I’m just late to the party!

For one reason or another, I completely missed The X-Files on its original run. At the time, I can remember my attention being primarily focussed on shows like California Dreams, Renegade and Star Trek’s The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, meaning I just never got around to immersing myself in the paranormal investigations of Mulder and Scully. I succeeded in watching both movies on the big screen and had spent some time researching the show ahead of time, but aside from that my exposure to the show had been minimal. The hilarious Simpsons parody episode pretty much summed up what the series entailed and helped to pique my interest but it wasn’t until recently that I found the time to dip my toes into the paranormal waters.

And all I can say is … damn, I missed out!

Right from the outset, the series had me on the edge of my seat. As a boy, the bizarre nature of the supernatural had intrigued me and The X-Files delivered on that lifelong fascination in spades. Whether it was stories of werewolves, alien abduction, conspiracy theories, predatory prehistoric insects or even cloning and genetic manipulation, the X-Files seemed to harness the very best of our urban legends and turn them into gripping and compelling entertainment. Midway through season one, there is even an episode that parallels John Carpenter’s The Thing in almost every detail. And it’s not done in a derogatory sense. There is no plagiarism at work here.  In fact, the episode is more of a loving tribute to what many horror fans (myself included) believe to be one of Carpenter’s very best movies.

Mulder and Scully - The X-Files

Thanks, to my prior big-screen exposure to the characters of Mulder and Scully, the harmonious relationship between the duo came as no real surprise, but it was compelling to see where the relationship began and where their mutual journey of discovery commenced. And after recently completing the first season, I found myself far more invested than I bargained for. If you’re like me and have yet to experience this series for yourself, I won’t spoil the finale for you … but I’ve gotta tell you, it’s game-changing stuff. And, like all good season finales, it leaves you gasping for more and craving to discover what happens in the next thrilling chapter.

I cannot wait to turn the page and see where the series takes me.

The X-Files Mulder and Scully

It is a testament to the show, that even after two decades, The X-Files is just as compelling now as it was when it first captured the imaginations of legions of fans around the world. I may be VERY late to the party, but I am now proud to count myself among you. The truth is out there … and I am ready to be dragged down the paranormal rabbit hole.

The X-Files is currently streaming on Amazon Prime in its entirety, so if you are yet to immerse yourself in the brilliance of this series, NOW IS THE TIME. You will not regret it!
