A Quiet Place Part II pushed back by the Coronavirus
As the world suffers from the current Coronavirus that has hit all corners of the planet, it has been announced that the upcoming Paramount sequel ‘A Quiet Place Part II‘ has had its release delayed. The film becomes the third casualty of the virus to have its release delayed, joining ‘No Time To Die‘ and ‘Peter Rabbit 2‘ in being held back. Writer and director John Krasinski posted the following statement on his Instagram page:
To all our A Quiet Place fans,
One of the things I’m most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together. Well, due to the ever-changing circumstances of what’s going on in the world around us, now is clearly not the right time to do that. As insanely excited as we are for all of you to see this movie…I’m gonna wait to release the film ’til we CAN all see it together! So here’s to our group movie date! See you soon! #AQuietPlacePart2…Take 2…JK
At this time. there is no new date for the film to open at the cinema’s worldwide. After the shocking news that Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson have tested positive for the virus, rumours are starting to circulate that several other big-budget summer blockbusters are also keeping an eye on the situation and again, rumours are emerging that the releases of ‘Mulan‘ and ‘Black Widow‘ are possibly also going to be delayed. It appears that Hanks’ upcoming film ‘Greyhound‘, after the news about the actor/writer of the film being caught up in the pandemic, it too will be held back.
For what it’s worth, I think that Krasinski has made the correct decision in delaying the film for the time being as has the rest of the films that have decided to hang back due to the ongoing crisis. The way the virus is sweeping the world and the population is falling ill or in some tragic circumstances even dying, I can honestly see the blockbuster season being extremely late this year. In fact, it wouldn’t shock me if we see many countries following China’s lead and closing their cinemas until the danger is either over or is in serious decline. If that is to happen, then some of what we have been eagerly waiting for to open may not see the light of day until late this year or even be delayed until next year instead. But what’s worse? Having to wait to see a movie a while longer or risk exposure and the possible consequences?
‘A Quiet Place Part II‘ is written and directed by John Krasinski and once again stars his wife, British actress Emily Blunt. It will be released at an appropriate time in the future.
