The release of F9 has been postponed for a full year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic
Hot on the heels of ‘A Quiet Place Part II‘ having its cinematic delayed until further notice comes the news that the ninth film in the ‘Fast Franchise’, ‘Fast & Furious 9‘ has fallen victim to the deadly Coronavirus and as such, has seen its cinematic release pushed back by almost a year. The film is now scheduled to open on April 2nd, 2021 instead of its original date of May 22nd of this year. In a statement, the cast and crew behind the film announced:
To our family of Fast fans everywhere, We feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga. That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film. It’s become clear that it won’t be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May. We are moving the global release to April 2021, with North America opening on April 2. While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration. Moving will allow our global family to experience our new chapter together. We’ll see you next spring. Much love. Your Fast Family.
Vin Diesel was quoted as saying that he wouldn’t move the releases dates of ‘Fast 9‘ and his new film ‘Bloodshot‘ and they would be released as planned. While ‘Bloodshot‘ opened yesterday as planned, ‘Fast 9‘ is a bigger release, likely to be viewed by millions of more people than ‘Bloodshot‘ and as such, this is an expected piece of news. This marks the fourth movie of the films expected to be the biggest of the year to be delayed due to the ongoing crisis going on around the world. As such, it remains to be seen what the other distributors and studios decide to do regarding their films readying themselves for release over the next few months.
