Director Destin Daniel Cretton has self-isolated while he awaits the results of his test for the Coronavirus
The Coronavirus pandemic is taking its toll on Hollywood in various ways. After the news that Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson have contracted the disease and after yesterday’s announcements delaying a large number of this year’s summer blockbusters until later this year and in ‘Fast & Furious 9‘s case, until next year comes the news that Marvel’s upcoming adaptation of comic-book ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings‘ has halted production as Director Destin Daniel Cretton has self-isolated while he awaits the results of his test for the Coronavirus. Marvel sent the cast and crew a note informing them of the matter:
“As many of you know, Destin, our director, has a newborn baby. He wanted to exercise additional caution given the current environment and decided to get tested for Covid-19 today. He is currently self-isolating under the recommendation of his doctor. While he waits for the results of the test, we are suspending 1st unit production in an abundance of caution until he gets the results this coming week. Second unit and off production will continue as normal. We will reach out to everyone by Tuesday for the latest update. This is an unprecedented time. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work through this”
As the note states, the second unit is still very much in business and is continuing to shoot during the main unit hiatus. The film was due for release on February 12th, 2021 but that is likely to be moved due to the shutdown, however brief it may be to the main production. The film is shooting in Australia where Tom Hanks was also shooting his yet un-named Elvis Presley Biopic before he was diagnosed with Covid-19. The Oscar-winning actor and his wife remain in self-isolation at this time.
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as the main character, a martial arts master and is one of the new phases of Marvel movies on the horizon.
We will keep you updated on any further developments in this continuing story as they make themselves known.
