Rumor - Jared Leto To Enter The Grid In Tron 3!

Could Disney be about to greenlight Tron Ascension?

Another day, another rumor. But this one may yet be grounded in fact. Word going around is claiming that Disney is gearing up again to take us into the world of ‘Tron‘. The last film, ‘Tron: Legacy‘ hit screens ten years ago this Christmas and plans have been made, canceled, remade, and canceled again over the past decade. It was going to be a film named ‘Tron: Ascension‘ that was in place to continue the franchise and actor Jared Leto was in place to lead the film, which wasn’t going to be a sequel to ‘Legacy‘ but a spin-off with Leto playing a new character called Ares. Leto almost had a cameo in ‘Tron: Legacy‘, featuring at the End Of Line club until the idea fell by the wayside.

Tron Legacy - Sam Flynn

Now it is being reported that Leto is back in contention again with the leading role in a proposed third film. According to the Disinsider:

“The film is expected to be more of a Tron sequel rather than a reboot, and the cast from ‘Tron: Legacy’ could return. It is unknown at this time if the film will follow the same story as the canceled third Tron film, ‘Tron: Ascension’, which would have seen the machine world of The Grid invade the real world”

Daft Punk - Tron Legavy

It is also being claimed that Daft Punk, who provided the soundtrack to the second film, has been approached to once again score the third. Directors are apparently being sought to take the reins of the new film which means there will be no return for Legacy‘s director Joseph Kozinski if true. This would be a shame as Kozinski did a great job with the sequel. It this turns out to be true, then my hope would be they manage to bring back Jeff Bridges as Flynn, even if it is for a cameo appearance. But my biggest hope is they give Bruce Boxleitner a bigger role in the third film and, considering they did it with Bridges in the second film, make Tron a bigger part this time around by de-aging Boxleitner.

Tron Legacy

All this is a rumor at the moment but we will bring you any breaking news on the project if the news turns out to be true.
