The awesome new trailer arrives to commemorate Star Trek Day

In case you didn’t know by now, today is Star Trek Day. Fifty-four years ago today, the series that started it all first left Spacedock on its five-year mission (it only lasted three but you get the drift) and entered popular culture and our hearts. So there’s no better day for the trailer for the third season of ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ to be released. Get ready for warp speed:

Also, the poster for the new season has dropped too:

As you can see, the studio has decided to change the logo for the new season with the word ‘Discovery‘ now being made bigger than the ‘Star Trek‘ legend.  As the trailer for the third season reveals, the crew of the Discovery has jumped nine hundred and thirty years into the future in an attempt to save the Federation from total annihilation in the year 3188. They discover the Federation is on its knees after being ravaged by ‘The Burn’ unleashed upon it by the new character of Cleveland ‘Book’ Booker who is portrayed by the former ‘Supergirl‘ actor David Ajala.

The series once again features Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Mary Wiseman, Michelle Yeoh, Wilson Cruz, and Anthony Rapp alongside newcomers Blu Del Barrio and Ian Alexander who have joined the cast as the first-ever recurring non-binary gender and trans characters respectively in the long history of ‘Star Trek‘, demonstrating that the franchise has evolved and moved forward with the times we now find ourselves in, just as the previous series’ in the fifty-four-year history have done over the years.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 debuts October 15th
