“This show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.”

The inaugural season of The Mandalorian expanded the galaxy far, far away in ways many fans never thought possible. New legends came to fore, the remnants of the Empire returned to cast an ominous shadow over the outer rim, and a little green alien captured the hearts of the entire fanbase.

Needless to say, Jon Favreau and his wonderful team captured lightning in a bottle with the first season, and with Season 2 just a few short weeks away, Star Wars fans are gearing up for more adventures alongside Mando and his adorable ward. Once again pursuing our new dynamic duo across the galaxy is Moff Gideon played wonderfully by Giancarlo Esposito. The Imperial antagonist shocked the world when he unleashed the legendary Mandalorian ‘Darksaber‘ from The Clone Wars and Rebels fame – and fans are hoping to learn more of how he came into possession of the weapon in season 2. However, according to the actor himself – some of the big revelations will be saved for the third and fourth season of the series.

Moff Gideon and The Darksaber

While speaking with People during the pre-show for the Emmy Awards, Giancarlo Esposito said that “The next season of The Mandalorian is going to be very interesting because you’re going to start to find out the power of The Child, what The Child really means. You will also start to uncover the origins of the Darksaber that Moff Gideon has and how that plays into previous Star Wars history connected to The Clone Wars and other shows. And you’ll start to get a real dramatic sense of the territory. “ Esposito continued, saying, “We’re living in a universe that’s huge, and there’s so much to explore. So I think this show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.”

This is exciting news, we’ve known that Jon Favreau has been busy writing the script for season 3 for a while now, but this is the first we’ve heard of the fourth season. However, given the overwhelming popularity of the series, it’s not exactly a shock that Disney/Lucasfilm would greenlight more seasons – am I for one, am totally fine with that!
