Ewan McGregor talks about playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again now he’s almost the same age as Alec Guinness when he played him originally
We have been waiting for any news regarding Ewan McGregor‘s epic return to the ‘Star Wars‘ universe, once again reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, a character the actor last played back in 2005s ‘Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith‘. At last year’s ‘Star Wars Celebration‘, it was announced that McGregor would be playing him in an upcoming Disney+ show. Since that time, however, there has been nothing but rumors and rumblings regarding the show and after this year’s COVID-19 pandemic, it seemed as though we would be in for a rather long wait before seeing the character return.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel, Star Wars fans. Ewan McGregor made an appearance on the BBC talk show ‘The Graham Norton Show’, speaking remotely due to the pandemic preventing him from traveling and being in the studio in person. While being interviewed by Graham Norton, the question inevitably came up regarding the Obi-Wan show and McGregor gave everyone the news they had been hoping for. He confirmed that the show would begin filming in March of 2021. The actor jokingly described the upcoming project as ‘The Obi-Wan Kenobi story…I suppose!’ and the show ‘Isn’t all me…but it is a lot of me!’. He also revealed that he studied quite a lot of the late Sir Alec Guinness’ work in preparing for the role previously and that he now ‘Has the challenge of meeting Alec halfway’ as McGregor is approaching the age Guinness was when he played Kenobi in the first ‘Star Wars‘ film back in 1977.
There wasn’t anything else revealed regarding the show but with Ewan Mcgregor’s comments and revelation that the series will commence filming in March, it is enough to keep all ‘Star Wars‘ fans on tenterhooks and to begin to build up their excitement towards what surely must be one of the most eagerly awaited shows this side of season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian‘. No date for the transmission of the series to start but alongside the Cassian Andor prequel series that is also on the horizon, McGregor’s comeback to the world of ‘Star Wars‘ and his taking up the mantle of Obi-Wan Kenobi again, we can all start to look forward to the ‘Star Wars‘ universe continuing for many years to come.
