The horror icon will be reanimated by Apple and A24
It all seems to be a go where it comes to the classic Universal horror movies and their remakes/reboots. Although not coming from Universal itself, Apple and A24 are in the process of what seems to be an updated version of ‘Bride Of Frankenstein‘. The twist this time however is the production is intended to be a sci-fi thriller, a twist to the genre. The film, to be called simply ‘Bride‘, is to be directed by Sebastian Leilio who will write the screenplay for the film in conjunction with Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, the wife of Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, giving the production that much more of a good chance of being worthwhile.
Both Blum and Angelo are also the writing team that has contributed the script for the upcoming Ryan Gosling ‘The Wolfman‘ remake. Scarlett Johansson has signed on the dotted line to star and produce the film and had this to say regarding the project:
“It is long overdue for Bride to step out of the shadow of her male counterpart and stand alone. Working alongside Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, Sebastian and I are extremely excited to emancipate this classic anti-heroine and reanimate her story to reflect the change we see today”
The official synopsis for the film is:
A woman created to be an ideal wife-the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur-rejects her creator and is forced to flee her confined existence, confronting a world that sees her as a monster. It is on the run that she finds her true identity, her surprising power, and the strength to remake herself as her own creation.
Ok, I’m in! Although I would rather see an updated version of the classic movie, I can understand exactly why the new version will go the way it’s intending and am all for it. It sounds like the kind of film that I and the masses will sit down and enjoy and could turn out to be a great way of reintroducing the character back into popular culture. No start date or other casting announcements have been made as of yet but as soon as they are, we will let you know and keep you up to date with all the latest news.
