Warner Bros. To Release Entire 2021 Theatrical Movies In Cinemas And On HBO Max Simultaneously

Warner Bros. to change the face of cinema by releasing the biggest movies in cinemas and on HBO Max on the same day
BREAKING NEWS
Today, Warner Bros. Studios has decided to release it’s entire 2021 cinematically scheduled movies simultaneously in theatres and their HBO MAX service. This now means that their big tentpole releases such as ‘Godzilla Vs Kong‘, ‘The Matrix 4‘, ‘The Suicide Squad‘, ‘Tom And Jerry’, ‘Dune‘, and many other titles that were expected to lead the studio’s attempts to earn the box office dollars they sorely missed this year will be available on the home entertainment front at precisely the same time as the movie theatres will be screening them. It is being said that the movies will be available for only a month on HBO MAX before the film is allowed to close out its theatrical run as normal.
Ann Sarnoff and Jason Kilar, the Chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group, and CEO of Warnermedia respectively delivered the news via this statement:
“We’re living in unprecedented times that call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group. No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theatres in the U.S will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021. With this unique one-year plan, we can support our partners in exhibition with a steady pipeline of world-class films, while also giving moviegoers who may not have access to theatres or aren’t quite ready to go back to the movies the chance to see our amazing 2021 films. We see it as a win-win for film lovers and exhibitors, and we’re extremely grateful to our filmmaking partners for working with us on this innovative response to these circumstances.”
“After considering all available options and the projected slate of moviegoing throughout 2021, we came to the conclusion that this was the best way for WarnerMedia’s motion picture business to navigate the next 12 months. More importantly, we are planning to bring consumers 17 remarkable movies throughout the year, giving them the choice and the power to decide how they want to enjoy these films. Our content is extremely valuable unless it’s sitting on a shelf not being seen by anyone. We believe this approach serves our fans, supports exhibitors and filmmakers, and enhances the HBO MAX experience, creating value for all.”
Toby Emmerich, the chairman of the Warner Bros. Pictures Group had this to add:
“This hybrid exhibition model enables us to best support our films, creative partners, and moviegoing in general throughout 2021. We have a fantastic, wide-ranging slate of titles from talented and visionary filmmakers next year, and we’re excited to be able to get these movies in front of audiences around the world. And, as always, we’ll support all of our releases with innovative and robust marketing campaigns for their theatrical debuts, while highlighting this unique opportunity to see our films domestically via HBO MAX as well.”
COVID-19 has struck a huge blow to movie theatres this year and has seen the change of distribution and release change, maybe forever. Warner Bros. has taken the first step ahead of what could yet be another challenging year for the multiplexes. Of course, this only applies to the United States, where HBO MAX is available. The rest of the world doesn’t have access to HBO MAX and so, are we to understand that Warner Bros. will continue to release their movies overseas theatrically as they are doing right now? All we can do is wait and find out what their plans are for the overseas market. And all eyes will now be on the other big studios such as Universal, Disney and, Sony to see how they react to Warner’s move.
I can understand why Warner Bros. has done this and as the statement says, it is only for the year 2021. With a little bit of luck and with God willing, the vaccines that are now almost ready to be distributed to the population of the world will defeat the pandemic once and for all and allow us to return to a semi-normal way of life again. And that will include our return to the movies once more.

Not watching it at home. Not the same as a theater. I looked forward to going to the movies. Plus they charge too much to stream it. A subscription AND a charge for the movie? Hell no.
I’m with you 100%. I’m in the U.K. and we can’t get HBO MAX. Even if we did, I’d rather see it in a theatre. I don’t like what Warner’s have come up with as it could lead to the death knell for movie theatres. I want to see my movies on the big screen, not on tv.
