Jared Leto‘s long-delayed Morbius vampire movie delayed again and will now release in October
Hot on the rumored news that Disney is looking to send ‘Black Widow‘ to PVOD as well as releasing theatrically simultaneously, news has emerged that Sony’s Marvel movie ‘Morbius‘ has been delayed again and has now moved to October 8th instead of opening on March 19th. This shift will put the film in competition with ‘The Addams Family 2‘ which is released on the same day and one week after Warner Bros. finally unleashes the delayed sci-fi epic ‘Dune‘.
Delay
Originally set for release back in July, Sony delayed it after the onset of COVID. And despite several vaccines now being available, it seems that the world won’t be immunized against it by the time the film was due for release in two months. Additionally, the cases of infection have climbed again sharply and it looks like the worldwide box office probably won’t be in a position to reopen in time.
Morbius
Based on the Marvel comic, ‘Morbius‘ stars Jared Leto in the title role of Michael Morbius. In an attempt to cure himself of a rare blood disease, he undergoes a transformation that leaves him with a form of Vampirism. The film co-stars Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Tyrese Gibson and featuring Michael Keaton, reprising his role as Adrian Toomes/ Vulture from ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘.
Sony hopes that the film could lead to the long-considered ‘Sinister Six‘ film that has been on the drawing board ever since they released ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘. But we’ll see…
‘Morbius‘ will now emerge from the shadows on October 8th, 2021
