Why so serious? Zack Snyder has shared our first look at Jared Leto’s Joker from The Snyder Cut of Justice League

We’ve known for some time that Zack Snyder’s Justice League would be bringing back Jared Leto‘s Joker. But until now, the visionary director has been keeping his Joker cards pretty close to his chest. Leto’s version of Gotham’s clown prince of crime was last seen in the closing stages of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. And although Warner Bros. seems to have washed their hands of his incarnation of the character, Snyder is determined to bring him back to the fore.

DAMAGED

Today, the visionary director has given us a taste of what we can expect from a more “Road Weary” clown, and it is proving to be quite revealing. Taking to Vero, Snyder posted an image of the villain’s distinctive new look, and it is hauntingly reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s portrayal. Check it out:

In the post, Snyder also paid tribute to Suicide Squad director David Ayer, the man responsible for overseeing Leto’s transition into the DC fraternity.  “Amazing character you created. Honored to have our worlds collide,” the director said.

ROAD WEARY

But the difference in Jared Leto’s new look is notable. Firstly, the divisive “Damaged” tattoo from his forehead appears to be all but gone. Second, the hair is far more reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s version. And lastly, the eyes appear to be a lot more sunken than in his previous run out.  Snyder has always maintained that The Joker would look far more road-weary in his movie, and for all intents and purposes, he hasn’t let us down.

The Snyder Cut Joker

Meanwhile, Zack Snyder’s Justice League has finally been bestowed with an official release date. The four-hour-plus bonanza will release on HBO Max on March 18 and will include over 80% new, unseen footage. And if that isn’t enough to get us excited, it will reportedly have an all-new Superman-themed opening sequence.

Sadly, Leto’s screentime is expected to be limited. But I cannot wait to see him back in full makeup again. No, his version wasn’t what we expected. No, his version wasn’t perfect. But he deserves the chance to show us the true face of his clown prince of crime. And thanks to Zack Snyder – Justice is Served.

Mark the date in your calendar. The Joker returns on March 18.
