Burton To Direct Addams Family Spin-Off ‘Wednesday’
Tim Burton will bring his vision of The Addams Family to life. But the show will follow Wednesday Addams in her student years!
We had all heard that director and visionary Tim Burton was being lined up to direct an ‘Addams Family‘ project over at Netflix. And we all assumed that it would be a re-imagining of the classic comedy series. With Burton as director, bringing his macabre way of directing things and with his visual flair, we all said he was the perfect choice to update the franchise.
Names were being banded about for the various characters. With the smart money being on Eva Green to play Morticia Addams and Johnny Depp easily slipping into the shoes and suits as Gomez Addams. But we have been dealt a shock. The project will be set in the Addams Family world, but it won’t be an update of the show. It will focus on an adult Wednesday Addams in a show entitled ‘Wednesday‘.
Have a look at the officially released synopsis:
The coming-of-age comedy, written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and to be directed by Burton, is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. That’s where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.
Wednesday Addams investigating a killing spree? Hell, she’s probably the one committing the murders! But, I have to admit that the show does sound interesting. And I will certainly be checking it out when it debuts. But now thoughts will turn to who exactly will play Wednesday? Sadly, Christina Ricci is invariably out of the running to play her this time around (but she can still appear in some capacity, right?). So who could step into Wednesday’s shoes?
I’m sure many names will be mentioned in the weeks and months to come but at the moment, no casting has been announced. There is also no official release date for the show. But I would guess at it debuting sometime in 2022, possibly around Halloween. That would be fitting for the project. And with Burton handling directorial duties, it is sure to be an enjoyable and fun ride.
Who do YOU think should play the murderous firstborn of Morticia and Gomez Addams? Who has the prowess to play Wednesday in this new venture? Let us know your predictions!
