Sylvester Stallone says Rocky Balboa won’t be returning to ringside for Michael B. Jordan’s Creed 3. But Expendables 4 is possible!
This one isn’t much of a surprise, to be honest. Coming off the back of the news that star Michael B. Jordan will direct ‘Creed 3‘ as well as top-line comes the news that one co-star won’t be back. Sylvester Stallone, after the second film filmed a video publically retiring from his role as Rocky Balboa. This past weekend, when asked on Instagram whether he would be in the third film, the actor gave a simple response:
“It will be done but I won’t be in it. Keep Punching.”
We thought that Stallone may not appear in the film as his name wasn’t mentioned in the press release for Jordan’s upcoming threequel. It’s a shame Rocky won’t be making an appearance but can totally understand Stallone’s reluctance to step back into the ring as the character. Better news though for Rocky fans is Stallone’s idea for a prequel series. The actor wants to make a limited series, around ten episodes for a few seasons to bring fans into the younger days of the characters. Adding to the star’s director’s cut of ‘Rocky IV‘ that is seemingly ready for release, the future still looks bright for the Italian Stallion.
Another project that has been in the pipeline for a few years is ‘The Expendables 4‘. The action franchise has delivered three good films so far. But a fourth was planned after the third film was made with a PG-13 rating in mind. Although the film made a profit and was granted an unrated edition on home entertainment, the series really fits into the R-rated format best. Rumors have been swirling around for years regarding the fourth offering for Stallone and his compadres. Now, after speaking on ‘The Jenna Ben Show‘, actor Randy Couture revealed all:
“It sounds like we’re gonna get to do [Expendables] 4. They’ve been kicking it around for a couple of years now but I’ve just recently heard from my agent that they’re working on the script for [Expendables] 4 and they’re planning to schedule filming for Expendables 4 for this/next fall. So I haven’t seen the script yet. They had one a couple of years ago that they were talking about making Expendables 4 out of, and then it [the previous script] got away. You just never know, it’s such a weird business sometimes…”
I personally enjoy ‘The Expendables‘ films. Being of the age where I went to see the action films of the 1980s in theatres. They take me back to those days. You could catch me every weekend watching the latest from Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Norris, Van Damme, and the rest. And Stallone knew what he was creating when he penned the first film. A fourth film, if it comes to pass will be a welcome addition to a summer schedule. And Stallone has already said this time, it will be 100% a full-on R-rated action film. Bring it on!
