Warm up the oven because Tara Reid and the gang may be about to return for another slice of American Pie?
Those of us of a certain age can remember the very first ‘American Pie‘ movie. It was an enjoyable and incredibly funny comedy that reminded us of the ‘Porky’s‘ movies from the 1980s. It also featured a stellar cast of young actors and actresses, some of whom have gone on to major success. Three sequels followed that were also successful alongside several spin-offs which were of varying quality. But nothing could compare to the original film and its sequels.
We all thought that the last film in the franchise, ‘American Reunion‘ would be the last one. It ended things pretty well and although there was still room for more, it felt like a natural conclusion. But in Hollywood, nothing is ever really concluded if there’s money still to be made. Back in 2018, actress Tara Reid admitted that she had:
“Met the directors [Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg] recently at the Emmy party and I said, ‘Let’s do the fifth movie, the franchise needs another movie.’ They replied: ‘It will happen! We’re going to make another!’ It will be incredible to come back. American Pie is American Pie. Movies were a part of American culture, it’s a classic. It is known all over the world. I’m very excited. It’s going to be a great year for me, with Sharknado’s debut and the possibility of filming yet another American Pie in 2018.”
Now, three years later, the actress has spoken again about the possibility that a fifth film could be made. She went even further by declaring that the script was written already. She also claimed that the screenplay is “One of the best ones” of the franchise before continuing to say:
“It might happen… okay, I can’t tell you when, because I don’t really know when, because we have to get all the actors and at the same time to get our schedules together. There is a script out there. I’ll put it that way.”
The stumbling block would be getting the entire cast together once again. And also, if they would all be willing to return. Nothing is straightforward getting the film off the ground, even if the script does indeed exist. If, say, Jason Biggs and Alyson Hannigan refuse to return, Seann William Scott declines the offer or if Chris Klein, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Thomas Ian Nicholas decide that enough is enough, the film is dead in the water. Without many of its founding characters, the film wouldn’t float.
A fifth film isn’t out of the question but do we want it? How many more times can they go to the well before they find it is dry? Having said that though, who wouldn’t be interested in another go-around with Jim, Michelle, and the gang? And what ideas could they come up with this time for Stifler’s mom (or Finch’s mom if you remember the fourth film)?
Whether it appears in theatres is debatable. But would YOU be interested in seeing another slice of ‘American Pie’?
