The battle of the symbiotes is about to begin. The first trailer for Venom Let There Be Carnage has finally arrived!
Note the date in your diaries. September 24th sees the return of Venom! The anti-hero from the Spider-Man universe is returning in ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘. Tom Hardy once again plays the title character but is joined this time by Woody Harrelson as his nemesis, Carnage. The film was due for release back in October of last year before being pushed back to a 2021 release. Sony has released the first trailer and poster for the film. And boy, does it look good! Grab some tasty snacks and take a look:
The opening to the trailer and the end shows a more humorous side to the character. However, the rest of the trailer shows a darker and nastier film than the original. And that had a few wince-inducing moments. Sony will be aiming for a PG-13 rating and they’ll probably get it. But you can’t help noticing that Carnage, now revealed, could swing the film to the top of the PG-13 rating. An R rating remains a possibility but the makers are not looking to change the formula too much, despite R ratings working for other comic book properties.
Keep your eyes peeled on the trailer as there seem to be a few easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans. The most obvious of which is the inclusion of The Daily Bugle newspaper in the hands of Stephen Graham’s as yet, un-named character. Could this be a major clue as to whether the rumors of a Spider-Man cameo are true? The web-crawler doesn’t show up in the trailer. But then again, he wouldn’t, would he?
Naomie Harris makes her first appearance in the trailer too as Shriek. Yet another enemy of Spider-Man from the comics, the character is the girlfriend of Cletus Kasady/ Carnage. Marvel fans will know she is a psychotic villain who manipulates sound. And eventually, she will go on a killing spree. Could she be lined up as the big bad in ‘Venom 3‘? Only time and the new movie will tell.
Brief glimpses of Michelle Williams, returning as Anne Weying, Eddie Brock’s/ Venom’s former girlfriend, and Reid Scott as her doctor boyfriend, Dan Lewis are seen during the trailer. Both could be sidelined this time around in favor of Carnage and Shriek. It certainly appears to be the case after this first trailer.
CLASH OF THE SYMBIOTES
But, of course, the main event will be the battles between Venom and Carnage. And they should be ones for the ages. These two will tear chunks out of each other during proceedings. And we. as the audience, should be in for another thrill ride with Tom Hardy and his symbiote alter-ego. I completely loved the first film and can’t wait to get my second dose of the character. We will see if the sequel can live up to the original in September. Until then, remember…
WE ARE VENOM!
