DC’s Aquaman Sequel Gets Its Official Title!

James Wan reveals the hotly anticipated Aquaman sequel will be called ‘Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom’!

Are you ready to return to the depths of the ocean with Jason Momoa?

Back in 2018, DC released the first standalone ‘Aquaman’ film to great success. Set after the events of the Joss Whedon version of ‘Justice League’, the film was terrific. Jason Momoa led the cast as the titular character once again. His performance was more in line with the version of the character set up by Zack Snyder. The version that was seen in his version of the superhero team-up movie. A sequel was always on the cards alongside a spin-off horror film featuring the creatures of the trench, now sadly canceled.

The sequel is gearing up to begin shooting later this year. James Wan has shared a few photos on Instagram taken during a production meeting on the project. On one, the title for the film is revealed. Glimpsed on a computer screen, the title appears to us:

CAST AND CREW!

Jason Momoa will once again be playing Arthur Curry/Aquaman. It is expected that Amber Heard will also return as Mera alongside Patrick Wilson as Orm, Arthur’s half-brother and former king of Atlantis. Pilou Asbaek was announced as having joined the cast earlier this year. There is no news yet on whether Nicole Kidman, Temura Morrison, or Dolph Lundgren will also be returning. Or if Willem Defoe will be back as Vulko or Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will appear as David Kane/Black Manta. James Wan is returning to produce and direct again while David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick will be writing the screenplay.

A BIT OF HORROR TO BE INVOLVED AGAIN!

James Wan has also hinted that the film will again contain some horror elements. After the trench sequence in the first film, the pressure is on to match or even top it. Wan teased us when he was asked about bringing his sense of horror to the sequel, stating:

“I would say yes. Just like the first movie had a touch of my horror sensibility in it, in regards to the Trench sequence, I would say there’ll be a little bit of that in this next one. I think it’s something that’s a big part of who I am, and it just naturally comes out in these kinds of films. And especially in a movie like Aquaman, you know where the story takes place in these underwater worlds that can be very scary. So naturally, my love for the horror genre just means that I latch myself to these scenes and try to give them a little bit more of my scary sauce.”

PERSONAL FEELINGS

I loved the first ‘Aquaman’ film. It was fun, enjoyable, and Jason Momoa excelled in the role. The storytelling and design of the film were one of the best in a DC movie up until that time. So I am looking forward to the sequel. And I think the title is pretty good too. I would, however, consider dropping the ‘And’ from the title. But even if not, then the title will stand on its own.

Aquaman | King of the DC Seas

Bringing back the cast from the original film, even if only for cameos, would be a great touch too. But with Morrison busy with The Book Of Boba Fett‘ and Nicole Kidman always booked solid, it may be a case of writing them out in some easy way. They can always return in the third film! But I am ready to dive back into the ocean once again and ride alongside the king of the seven seas in his next adventure.

‘Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom’ is scheduled to be released on December 16th, 2022.

What do you make of the films’ title? Will you be diving back into the ocean when the film is released? Why not let us know and drop us a message? We always like to hear from you!
