I honestly hope there’s a Jungle Cruise sequel because I want to see more adventures with these characters!
Jungle Cruise is a great film. Is it totally original? No, but what movie is these days? Every movie is a sequel or a prequel, a reboot, or an obvious copycat of a previous great movie. Critics criticized Jungle Cruise for its formulaic plot and obvious inspirations from films like The Mummy, Indiana Jones; Pirates of the Caribbean, and The African Queen. But they laud films like The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Judas and the Black Messiah; films that are only acclaimed because they speak to the political struggles of the time. Parasite and Nomadland were refreshingly original and that’s why they won Best Picture.
So, as I said before, Jungle Cruise isn’t a movie unlike any film you’ve seen before but it is great. The writers, director, and cast found a way to make a movie that felt like a perfect Disney movie. In fact, it felt like one of those lovable 90s’ Disney animated flicks that would’ve been so much fun to watch as a child except it just so happened to be live-action.
A SENSATIONAL CAST
Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Jack Whitehall were the perfect trio of characters. Jesse Plemmons and Edgar Ramirez turned out to be the perfect actors cast as the film’s antagonists. And the story was just perfect, embracing the theme park ride element while also finding a way to tell a story that was thrilling and even, at times, heartfelt. I honestly hope there’s a sequel because I want to see more adventures with these characters and if you haven’t seen it yet give it a look. I think you’ll be surprised how much you enjoy it.
