‘Samaritan‘ pushed back to August 26th, 2022!
The Sylvester Stallone superhero film ‘Samaritan’ was scheduled to be released this year. We have been waiting to hear exactly when the film would open. We have been waiting to take our seats and see what the muscle-bound actor can amaze us with. Well, we are all going to have to wait a while longer. Over a year in fact. Despite being slated to open this summer, the film has now been pushed back until August 26th, 2022. United Artists, the studio behind the film had held off naming an official date for the film. This was possibly due to the COVID epidemic. The original release date in June came and went without any sight of the film.
THE PREMISE
The film tells the story of a young boy, Sam Cleary (Javon Walton) who comes to a stunning revelation. He discovers that a famous superhero, who has been missing for twenty years after an epic battle, may still be around. Stallone plays the superhero Samaritan/Stanley Kominski. The film is described as a new, and much darker take on superhero movies. This is a rare turn for Stallone. His track record in superhero movies is spotty at best. Of course, his appearances in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2‘ and the currently playing ‘The Suicide Squad‘ are in his favor. But we can’t forget the 1995 disaster of ‘Judge Dredd’.
THOUGHTS
The film sounds like a winner to me. Sylvester Stallone has been hyping up the film on his Instagram account for a while now. He has been keeping his fans and followers updated as to the progress of the film. I’m certainly ready for a much darker superhero movie. Although ‘The Suicide Squad’ carries an R rating, the film itself is pretty light. Stallone could have a new franchise on his hands if he plays it right. And having a darker story than we’ve seen before is always an advantage. Plus the film won’t be going to streaming or have a simultaneous release so it has a great chance to hit it big.
‘Samaritan’ opens in theatres on August 26th, 2022.
