Idris Elba confirms via Instagram that he will voice Sonic’s friend/rival Knuckles!
Idris Elba, hot off of ‘The Suicide Squad‘ has been confirmed as the voice of Knuckles the Echidna in ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’. The actor took to his Instagram account to confirm his casting. He joins a cast that includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter. Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore. With Ben Schwartz again voicing Sonic. And the returning Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. Jeff Fowler is again directing the film which speeds into theatres on April 8th, 2022.
KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA
The character of Knuckles is Sonic’s friend and rival. He was introduced into the Sega videogame franchise in 1994s ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3’. He is the keeper of a mysterious object called the Master Emerald. It is an ancient relic which Knuckles is sworn to protect against anyone or thing that wishes to abuse its power. Knuckles is the last of the Knuckles clan, an Echidna race. His powers include super-strength, he can trap wind under his dreadlocks, giving him the ability to glide through the air. And he possesses two spike-like knuckles on each hand. He can use these to climb walls and dig in. And although the character is mostly a loner, he became friends with Sonic after being tricked by Dr. Robotnik into thinking he was his sworn enemy.
