Ghostbusters Afterlife, Top Gun Maverick And Mission Impossible 7 Delayed

Tom Cruise won’t be taking to the skies this year after all! While Ghostbusters: Afterlife moves back by a week!

Well, ain’t that just great? Despite all their bluster that they wouldn’t move it back again, Paramount has announced that the long-awaited sequel ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has been delayed yet again. The film was due in theaters back in June of last year. Now, it won’t fly into multiplexes until May 27th, 2022. That means the film has been delayed by almost two years. It was due to open this coming November. Now that’s gone by the wayside. No reason has been given for the delay but it’s a safe bet it’s either to do with Covid. Or Paramount wants to hold the film for a more profitable summer slot. Either reason seems plausible.

And that’s not all Tom Cruise fans. Thanks to ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ shifting to next May, the next ‘Mission: Impossible.’ film has had to shift its release date back too. ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ will now depart from its assigned May 27th, 2022 date and won’t hit screens until September 30th, 2022. What this means for the July 7th, 2023 date for the eighth film is now up for question.

Those superstars of the supernatural have also been delayed. But breathe easier as it’s only by a week! Instead of opening on November 12th, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ will now open on November 19th. Although the delay is annoying, it’s better to wait another week for it than see it pushed back to a summer 2022 slot instead. We have been waiting thirty-two years for a second ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel. And so, an extra week won’t hurt (too much!).

Paramount didn’t stop with only delaying Tom Cruise. Johnny Knoxville and the gang in ‘Jackass Forever’ have also been delayed until 2022. The film, due to open on October 22nd will now instead debut on February 4th, 2022. That means that Paramount has decided to shift two of the biggest guns they have until next year. Whether we get an explanation for these moves is uncertain at this time. We will keep you up to date with any other delays to these or any other films right here at The Future Of The Force.

As of now, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ will open on May 27th, 2022. ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ will open on November 19th. ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ will open on September 30th, 2022. ‘Jackass Forever’ will open on February 4th, 2022.

What do you make of the delays to the four movies? Are you annoyed that they have shifted release dates yet again? Or do you think Paramount is right to delay them again? Why not let us know what you think!
