The first crew of the U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701 contains some familiar characters indeed!
Where’s Captain Kirk? Nowhere near the upcoming ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’. Good old James T. isn’t sitting in the center seat for this voyage of the famous U.S.S Enterprise. That honor falls to Captain Christopher Pike. As seen in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’, Pike is being played by Anson Mount. And boy, does he fit the character well. The series is a prequel to the original show and, as such, will feature some new characters on the bridge. Characters such as Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley/ Number One, The First Officer of the Enterprise, and the second-in-command to Pike.
Melissa Navia as Lieutenant Erica Ortegas. And Christina Chong as La’An Noonien-Singh. Now, that name will give the fans of the franchise cause to worry. For the surname, Noonien-Singh is synonymous with one of ‘Star Trek’s biggest and possibly best villains. Khan. Is La’An related to Khan in some way? That is for us to find out.
OLD FRIENDS, NEW FACES
We will re-encounter some old friends on the bridge, however. Ethan Peck will be playing Mr. Spock, the Vulcan science officer aboard the ship. And it has been announced that Babs Olusanmokun will appear as Dr. M’Benga, a character who first appeared in the original series episode ‘A Private Little War’.
CADET NYOTA UHURA
Celia Rose Gooding will be playing Cadet Nyota Uhura, the communications officer of the Enterprise.
NURSE CHRISTINE CHAPEL
Jess Bush will be taking over the role of Nurse Christine Chapel, the faithful nurse who will later be the sidekick of Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy.
