Official Film Chart - The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

This week on the official film chart, a Monster Hunter arrives, and the League returns but it’s The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard who shoots to the top!

Welcome to The Official Film Chart.

THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS GETS ITS FIRST TRAILER!

We all thought it was over. Eighteen years after what we thought was the final chapter in ‘The Matrix’ franchise, we are now just over three months away from a new installment. ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ once again stars Keanu Reeves as Thomas Anderson/ Neo. Also returning is Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. After both died in ‘The Matrix Revolutions’, how they are returning again is your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps The Matrix has rebooted itself? Maybe the original three films were just a dream? Who knows? But we will get some answers on December 22nd. The film has finally given us the first trailer and I have to admit, it does look good. Even though Neo is now rocking a ‘John Wick’ look! Check it out below:

DISNEY+’S HAWKEYE GETS ITS FIRST TRAILER!

We’ve had the fun and games of ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.’, and ‘WandaVision’. Now, this November, Jeremy Renner gets his own series in the Disney+ show ‘Hawkeye’. Renner is reprising his role as Clint Barton/ Hawkeye alongside new recruit Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. Barton will be a mentor to Bishop in the show with a view for her to take over the mantle of Hawkeye. The show will also look at Barton’s time as Ronin as seen in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Yet again, we have been given the first trailer for the show. And again, it looks like it’s going to be great entertainment. Take a look below:

THE OFFICIAL CHART

While some of this year’s big blockbusters are making money on the PVOD circuit, the top ten retail titles are, as usual, in a state of flux. But we are starting to get some big-name titles hitting the placings. As always, they arrive, others depart. And with a cheery wave off, this week sees ‘Dune’, ‘A Quiet Place-2 Movie Collection’, ‘Luca’, and ‘Godzilla VS Kong’ depart. But thoughts turn again to what is that all-important number one title. Is the top of the chart still silent? Or has somebody snuck in under the radar and stolen the top spot? Let’s go and find out.

THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD SHOOTS HIGH!

The silence has been shattered. After three weeks, we have a brand new number one. And it is our highest new entry of the week that shoots into the top spot. Welcome to ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’. The action-comedy sequel has blasted its way in, leading the way on physical sales alongside strong digital downloads. Once again, Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson lead the cast alongside Salma Hayek who gets a bigger role this time around. Michael Bryce (Reynolds) is forced back into action once again by hitman Darius Kincaid (Jackson) and his wife Sonia (Hayek). The trio discovers they are all that stands between Europe and a madman.

THE DEVIL MADE ME STAY AT NUMBER TWO!

Holding still again this week is the horror sequel ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.‘ Once again starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, the film is the eighth installment in the franchise that includes the ‘Annabelle’ movies. The movie is based on a true-life tale of a young man who murdered his landlord, claiming that he was told to by the devil. Although not as scary as the other films in the franchise, it is still guaranteed to give people a decent scare or two.

A MONSTER HUNTER ARRIVES IN THE CHART!

Our second new entry this week roars its way into third place. Milla Jovovich takes on nasty creatures in ‘Monster Hunter’. The big-screen adaptation of the classic videogame is available on digital download and has sold the most on digital over the past week. With support from Tony Jaa and Ron Perlman, the film does exactly what you’d expect it to do. No more, no less. It is quite enjoyable and is a good old-fashioned Saturday night family monster movie. But I think fans of the videogame will feel short-changed or downright annoyed.

A QUIET PLACE IS SILENCED!

Last week’s number one title is now this week’s number four. Falling three places, ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ has had its voice silenced. The horror sequel, once again starring Emily Blunt has managed to make itself a great success despite the pandemic stifling its box office chances. With sales such as it has seen, a third chapter will be in the back of the Paramount executive’s minds. I would expect to see the third film in around two to three years’ time.

NOBODY MOVES DOWN A PLACE!

Dropping a place to round out this weeks top five is the action flick ‘Nobody’. A complete surprise and a delightfully action-packed film starring Bob Odenkirk, the film is the perfect Saturday night entertainment. The story follows a bored family man who, after his house gets robbed, returns to his dangerous former life, which ultimately makes him the target of a vengeful drug lord. What the drug lord doesn’t realize is that he is starting trouble with a former “auditor”, an assassin employed by intelligence agencies. And someone who is described as “The last guy any organization wants to see at their door”. Let’s just say, it ain’t gonna end pretty!

COMING SOON!

Arriving on digital and the disc formats from Monday is the 1963 psychological drama ‘The Servant’. The film has been restored in 4K and was re-released in cinemas last week. The film stars Dirk Bogarde, Sarah Miles, Wendy Craig, and James Fox. It was written by Harold Pinter, who adapted Robin Maugham’s 1948 novella. The story follows the twisted tale about the psychological relationships among the four central characters and examines issues relating to social class. It twists and turns and has terrific performances from Bogarde, Miles, Fox, and Craig. No spoilers but by the end of the film, the tables have been well and truly turned. Grab a copy of this classic British film when it is released on Monday.

PETER RABBIT HOPS DOWN AGAIN!

We return to the top ten again now. And we discover that the farmer has managed to chase ‘Peter Rabbit 2’ out of his garden again and down a place to become this week’s number six. The former number one is still selling well and is on course to become one of 2021s best selling titles.

CRUELLA REFUSES TO MOVE!

Hanging fire in the seventh position, Emma’s Stone and Thompson in Disney’s ‘Cruella’ continue their battles. The film made a decent showing on PVOD before hitting the home entertainment formats and debuting on Disney+.

THE FATHER MOVING AWAY!

Last week’s number three title, the Oscar-winning drama ‘The Father’ drops five places this week to land in eighth place. Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor Oscar at this year’s ceremony in what is a powerhouse performance.

THE HITMAN GRABS A DOUBLE!

The sequel is this week’s new number one title. But our final new entry gives us BOTH films. Hitting the chart in ninth place is ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard/ The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Boxset’. As the name reveals, the set contains the two films in the franchise (so far). To be honest, I still think the first film is the better of the two. But it is worth grabbing them both in this boxset while you have the chance.

THE JUSTICE LEAGUE RETURN!

There is some justice after all! After just a single week outside of the chart, ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ rises three places to grab the tenth and final spot this week.

ROUNDING OFF!

And that brings our time inside the top ten charts to a close for another week. My thanks for joining me on our chart journey. And as always…

Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
