Black Widow Official Film Chart

This week on the Official Film Chart, Nobody hits back, and Dream Horse rides in but nothing can stop Black Widow from blasting into the top spot!

Welcome to The Official Film Chart.

GET READY FOR DISNEY PLUS DAY!

I, like so many other people, have subscribed to Disney+. And I find that it’s something that I can’t do without now. It offers top-quality entertainment, documentaries, and films. There is always something for everyone. November 12th is Disney Plus Day. And the line-up they have unveiled for the day is incredible. Not only are there special looks at ‘Star Wars.’, and ‘Marvel’. Not only are there new animated shorts from ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Luca’, and ‘Frozen’. Not only is there the film ‘Home Sweet Home Alone’. But they are giving to all subscribers the Disney+ premieres, included with your subscription of this summer’s ‘Jungle Cruise’ as well as the premiere of their current box office smash ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings’. That is a hell of a line-up that is streaming exclusively for all Disney+ subscribers.

HALLOWEEN KILLS GETS ITS FINAL TRAILER!

After waiting a year longer than expected for the return of The Shape, Next month sees the release of ‘Halloween Kills’. The horror sequel, once again starring Jamie Lee Curtis, starts precisely from the climax of the 2018 reboot/sequel. In the same fashion as the 1981 original sequel ‘Halloween II’, which no longer exists in this new timeline. Also starring Judy Greer, Kyle Richards, Anthony Michael Hall, and James Jude Courtney and original ‘Shape’ actor Nick Castle as Michael Myers. This week has seen the release of the final trailer for the film. And has sent fans into raptures. Every fan you speak to has been raving about the trailer, and how they can’t wait to see the film. They don’t have too long to wait now as The Shape stalks cinemas again on October 15th.

THE OFFICIAL CHART

Once again, there are movers and shakers in the top ten. We are getting to get the Christmas build-up already! We can expect to see some of this year’s biggest movies start to hit the positions for six. As for this week, we must wish a fond farewell to ‘The Father’, and ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard/ Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Boxset’. But what is the top-selling title? Can a certain bodyguard once again fight off all-comers to remain the number one title? Or has something else exploded into the chart and stormed the top position? It’s once again time to discover the truth.

BLACK WIDOW SMASHES HER WAY INTO THE TOP SPOT!

It was bound to happen. Despite all the uproar about its simultaneous release in cinemas and on Disney+ Premier Access, she was not to be denied. Exploding out of the blocks and smashing her way into the top spot, we welcome this week’s only new entry. It is a massive hello and a sad goodbye to Scarlett Johansson as her standalone film ‘Black Widow’ becomes the new official number one title. The film, the final time Scarlett Johansson will appear as the character is a triumph. We enjoy seeing her in action one final time while knowing that this is her swansong. Florence Pugh steals the show, however as Yelena Belova, Natasha’s adopted sister, fellow ‘Widow’ and the one who will now become part of the MCU as the new ‘Black Widow’. My advice is to grab it with both hands. You won’t regret it.

NOBODY ON THE MOVE UP!

Rising three places to take the silver medal position this week is the surprisingly enjoyable ‘Nobody’. The action-thriller, starring Bob Odenkirk is a top-notch action film that will appeal to the adults looking for a harder, more violent film to watch. Odenkirk plays Hutch, a seemingly quiet, no-violent family man. However, when his home is robbed, Hutch returns to his former life as an ‘Auditor’, an assassin who was employed by intelligence agencies. His activities put him into the sights of a vicious drug dealer. Now Hutch must use his skills to protect his family while also dealing wholesale death onto his enemies. The film as a whole is extremely entertaining and boasts a great supporting performance from legend Christopher Lloyd.

THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD SUFFERS A WOUND!

Last week’s number one title ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ suffers a bullet wound to its chart prowess. As such, the comedy-action sequel falls two places to take this week’s third position. Once again starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek, the film is still an enjoyable and at times hilarious tale. However, it doesn’t quite match up to the surprise and enjoyment of the original film. Having said that, thanks to some terrific support from Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas, the film is a must-watch. The comedy factor once again boosts the film up above other fares. And Reynolds and Jackson are always extremely watchable.

MONSTER HUNTER GETS CHASED DOWN!

The new film from the pair of Paul W.S Anderson and his wife, actress Milla Jovovich slips a place this week. ‘Monster Hunter’ now chases creatures from the fourth spot on the chart. Despite the fall, the film is still the biggest digital download of the week. Based on the videogame of the same name, the film is quite enjoyable for the whole family to sit together and have fun with. Ron Perlman also appears in the film, giving his all once again to proceedings. Fans of the video game will undoubtedly pick huge holes in the film. But for the rest of us, we are swept along for a thrilling ride containing big guns and even bigger monsters.

THE DEVIL MAKES THE CONJURING FALL!

Rounding out this week’s top five places is the eighth film in ‘The Conjuring’ franchise. Thanks to a good performance on PVOD after a belated cinema release, ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ has had quite a decent run in the top ten charts. Based on a true story, the horror sequel once again stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as real-life investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Although not as good or as scary as some of the other films in the franchise, it still gives the audience enough scares and frights to keep them on their toes.

OUTSIDE THE CHART!

Outside the chart, thanks to physical sales, the cartoon crossover ‘Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage The Cowardly Dog’ makes its debut in the 14th position. The film sees Scooby and the rest of Mystery Inc. in Courage’s hometown of Nowhere, Kansas. While there, they must face off with an army of giant Cicadas. Can the canine pair put aside their fears and defeat the whole insect army? What do you think?! The DVD also includes three bonus cartoons starring Scooby-Doo which go down a treat. The film does contain some mildly scary scenes but it is all good, clean fun.

COMING SOON!

This week’s offering hits all the home entertainment formats from September 27th. And it is slightly different this week. The film is the Oscar-winning comedy-drama ‘Another Round’. The film is a Danish black comedy that stars Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Clash Of The Titans). The film follows teachers Martin, Tommy, Peter, and Nikolaj who decide to test the theory of psychiatrist Finn Skarderud. The theory is that humans are born with a blood alcohol content (BAC) deficiency of 0.05. Attempting to maintain such a BAC makes people more relaxed and creative. The four friends decide to experiment to see if the psychiatrist is right in his theories. Things start much better for them but further down the road, things take a bad turn. The film is an enjoyable one and is worth watching.

A QUIET PLACE GROWS MORE SILENT!

We return to the official film chart once more with a look at this week’s sixth-placed title. And we discover that former number one ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ has slipped down by two places. The horror sequel continues to put the willies up the audience at home. And despite the fall, continues to be a top-notch home entertainment release.

DREAM HORSE FINALLY RIDES INTO THE CHART!

Riding up by nineteen places this week to finally enter the top ten placings in seventh place is ‘Dream Horse’. Starring Toni Collette and Owen Teale, the film shares the inspiring true story of an unlikely racehorse, Dream Alliance. The horse is funded by his owners’ neighbors chipping in what little earnings they had. With grit and determination, Dream rises through the ranks of the horseracing elites. And proving that despite a humble background, you can have the heart of a champion. The film is quite charming and funny, guaranteed to give the audience a good night’s entertainment.

PETER RABBIT IS CHASED OUT ONCE AGAIN!

Dropping two places to now occupy the eighth spot on the official film chart, former number one ‘Peter Rabbit 2’ has been chased away by the farmer yet again. But the film is still selling well and continues to entertain families across the country.

THE JUSTICE LEAGUE RISES AGAIN!

Rising a single place to remain in the official film chart for another week, ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League.’ once again commands our attention. The four-hour-long superhero masterpiece has been a continual presence in the chart ever since it hit home entertainment in May.

CRUELLA IS ON HER WAY OUT!

And finally, the Disney movie Cruella starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson slips three places to end the week in the tenth and final spot.

AT AN END FOR THE WEEK!

And just like that, with a click of the fingers, we are done. My thanks for joining in another tour through what is making the grade and what is failing miserably for the past seven days. And, as is now customary…

Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
