A terrific box office performance added to great streaming success means we WILL get the second part of the book!
The pandemic forced ‘Dune: Part One.’ to be delayed by over a year. Alongside a simultaneous HBO MAX release in the U.S, it was never a given that we would get a ‘Part Two.’ It was feared that the box office may be lackluster. However, thanks to its great critical success, a $41million opening weekend in the United States. And 1.9million streams over the weekend, the second film is officially a go. Legendary Pictures has confirmed that we will be seeing ‘Dune: Part Two.’ in theatres On October 20th, 2023.
DUNE: PART TWO
Denis Villeneuve is once again on board to direct the second part of the book. Also, he will once again team with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth in writing the concluding chapter of Frank Herbert’s first novel. Commenting on the announcement, a spokesman for Legendary pictures said:
“We would not have gotten to this point without the extraordinary vision of Denis and the amazing work of his talented crew, the writers. Our stellar cast, our partners at Warner Bros., and of course, the fans! Here’s to more Dune.”
THE RETURNING CAST
No spoilers from me regarding the first film but the returning cast will definitely include Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica. Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat. Zendaya as Chani, Javier Bardem as Stilgar. And Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam.
