This week on The Official Film Chart, The Suicide Squad blast in, and Space Jam flies up but it’s Paw Patrol-The Movie that barks at the top!
Welcome to The Official Film Chart.
NO TIME TO DIE HITS DISC ON DECEMBER 20TH!
The film has only recently opened in cinemas across the country but the latest James Bond film ‘No Time To Die.’ is scheduled to hit the disc formats on December 20th. That’s right, you can own Daniel Craig’s swansong as 007 just before Christmas. Or you can give it to a loved one as a gift. Either way, it is a great film to have at your fingertips over the festive period or to give away as a present. Watching it at home is easier than seeing it in the cinema. At least at home, you can pause the film and have a wee thanks to its almost three-hour runtime. You can’t do that at the cinema!

GREAT DEALS ON DIGITAL DOWNLOAD MOVIES!
Now Halloween is out of the way, the digital download sites have moved away from the horror genre. Instead, a great selection of classic titles has been reduced to fill their places. Films such as ‘The Omega Man.’ starring Charlton Heston. Tom Cruise in ‘The Firm’. Val Kilmer in the hilarious spoof ‘Top Secret!’ Michael Douglas in the thriller ‘Black Rain’. But my money went on two films I adore straight away. The first was the Dudley Moore comedy ’10’. Co-starring Julie Andrews, the film is a hilarious comedy about a composer who hits middle age. His insecurities come to the surface and he chases younger women, just to see if he can still do it. Believe me, when I say it is bawdy, hilarious, and a great night’s entertainment.

My second pick is ‘John Carpenter’s Escape From L.A.’ Now, I love Kurt Russell as an actor. But out of all his performances, ‘Snake’ Plissken is certainly my favorite. And the film is a great sequel to ‘Escape From New York.’ It isn’t in the same class as that film but is a worthy and enjoyable action film in its own right. I can easily put on the two films back to back and have a great night, with a few cold ones and snacks to keep me going.

THE OFFICIAL CHART
This week on the official chart, we see the usual comings and goings. This week sees the end of the line for ‘The Forever Purge’, and ‘Injustice’. But what is the official UK number one? Can Vin Diesel keep his hold at the top of the chart? Can The Croods take the final step and take the top spot? Or has something else climbed to the summit? Time for walkies as we find out!
PAW PATROL-THE MOVIE BARKS INTO FIRST PLACE!
Wow! What a complete shock! Despite the muscle-bound prowess of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, they have been beaten into submission by an animated dog film! Based on digital downloads alone, the new number one title is ‘Paw Patrol-The Movie’. The big-screen adaptation of the popular children’s TV show has defied everyone and has jumped straight into the chart as this week’s highest new entry. The heroic pups face their biggest challenge to date after their biggest rival, Mayor Humdinger threatens to turn nearby Adventure City from a bustling metropolis into a state of chaos. With Tyler Perry and Ron Pardo heading up the main cast, there are star cameos from Jimmy Kimmel, who plays newscaster Marty Muckraker, and Kim Kardashian West who takes on the role of Delores, the sassy poodle.

A NEW LEGACY FOR SPACE JAM!
The silver medal position this week goes to ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’. Thanks to the film hitting the disc formats, it rises up the chart by seven places to take the second spot. LeBron James takes the lead this time in a belated sequel. Once again, the stars of Looney Tunes must join together to take on a monstrous Basketball team to save their own skins as well as aid a human in need. The film is basically a product placement for other Warner Bros. titles and franchises. But it does contain some hilarious hijinks from the animated stars. Look out for Granny becoming Trinity from ‘The Matrix’!

THE SUICIDE SQUAD BLAST INTO THE CHART!
Lock and load! ‘The Suicide Squad’ is here! Our second and final new entry into the chart goes to war in the third position. The film has hit the chart based on digital downloads alone. Once again, the Squad must take on a suicide mission, this time against a dictator. Margot Robbie leads the cast this time around and is joined by Idris Elba, John Cena, Daniella Melchior (a standout performance), and Sylvester Stallone. Many people (including two of our own team) didn’t care much for the film. I, however, thought the film was a brilliant kick-ass ride. Fun, violent, extremely bloodthirsty but with a great comical streak running through it, the film is perfect Saturday night entertainment.

FAST & FURIOUS 9 RUNS OUT OF FUEL!
Last week’s number one title has fallen three places to park itself into the fourth position this week. Vin Diesel and his ‘Family’ have had their brakes fail as ‘Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga’ slides down. All the usual suspects are present and correct once more. This time, they are joined by the returning Charlize Theron and a debuting John Cena. It is still outlandish fun as always but we get the feeling that the franchise is running out of fuel. But it is still an entertaining piece of nonsense that will keep the audience thrilled for its almost two and a half hour runtime.

JUNGLE CRUISE SINKS FURTHER!
Ahead of its debut later this month on Disney+, the thrilling action-adventure ‘Jungle Cruise’ sinks another two places this week. The film, starring Dwayne Johnson has been a great success on the disc formats, and digital downloads. The success the film has had has seen a sequel being greenlighted already. We can look forward to seeing more of Johnson and Emily Blunt in more crazy adventures in a few years’ time. And of course, we can’t get enough of the big cat, Proxima!

THE CROODS LOSE FOUR PLACES!
After hitting its highest ever position in the chart last week, ‘The Croods: A New Age’ drops four places. Last Week’s second-placed title now searches for a new home from the sixth place.

OLD REGENERATES ITSELF SLIGHTLY!
The latest film from M. Night Shyamalan, ‘Old’ has managed to regenerate itself slightly. The horror-thriller rises a single place to claim this week’s seventh place.

FREE GUY IN FREE FALL AGAIN!
The Ryan Reynolds comedy ‘Free Guy.’ has once again fallen down the chart. One of the best films of 2021 drops four places to tell its charming and entertaining tale from this week’s eighth spot.

WE ARE FALLING!
While his sequel continues to sell out cinemas around the world, the original ‘Venom’ goes the opposite way. The Tom Hardy comic book movie drops four places this week, falling from fifth to ninth place on the chart.

BLACK WIDOW IN DANGER OF BEING SQUASHED!
And finally, Scarlett Johansson’s farewell performance as ‘Black Widow’ is in danger of getting squashed. The Marvel film slips three places to hang over the chart exit door in the tenth position. However, the film is still available for all subscribers on Disney+ so it still has life in it yet.

FINISHING OFF!
Boy! Look at the time! We are done for the week. Time to end our walkies with those lovable pooches. My thanks for joining in once again with the tour through the chart placings. And as always…
