The Official Charts - PAW Patrol The Movie

This week on the Official Film Chart, The Courier arrives, and the chart gets Snake Eyes, but nothing can stop PAW Patrol from claiming a second week at the top!

Welcome to The Official Film Chart.

IT’S CLINT EASTWOOD WEEK ON DIGITAL DOWNLOADS!

As usual, the titles that have been reduced to buy on digital download for this week have changed. There are several great titles for you to pick up cheaply. However, the majority are Clint Eastwood’s Warner Bros. films. With the exception of a few (at this time of writing), almost all of his work for the studio has been reduced. These include all of the ‘Dirty Harry’ films. ‘Tightrope’, ‘White Hunter, Black Heart’. ‘The Rookie’, ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales.’ ‘Bronco Billy’, ‘Honkytonk Man.’  ‘Pink Cadillac’, and ‘Blood Work‘ to name a few. I have picked up ‘Firefox’, ‘The Gauntlet’, ‘Every Which Way But Loose’, and ‘Any Which Way You Can’ so far. And I will be picking up more over the coming days. It would be rude not to! I got to get the last few ‘Dirty Harry’ movies for my collection.

THE OFFICIAL CHART

As we turn to the official chart for another week, titles move around as they feel like once more. This week sees the departure of ‘Old’, and ‘Venom’. But can ‘PAW Patrol-The Movie’ sit like a good dog and stay in the top spot? Or has something else stolen its thunder? It is time for us to find out.

PAW PATROL SITS AGAIN IN THE TOP SPOT!

For the second week in a row, the official UK chart-topper is ‘PAW Patrol-The Movie.’ The film has managed to hold its position at the top by outselling its nearest rival by 20,000 sales. The adorable heroes are once again proudly sitting atop the chart. In the film, Ryder and the pups are called to Adventure City to stop Mayor Humdinger from turning the bustling metropolis into a state of chaos. Many of the original voice cast returned to lend their tones to proceedings. A sequel, entitled ‘PAW Patrol-The Mighty Movie’ is currently in development.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD SHOOTS UP A PLACE!

Moving up a single place this week is the DC sequel ‘The Suicide Squad.’ The film has managed to move thanks to digital downloads alone to take the second spot. It has hit the disc formats this past Monday, giving it a boost ahead of next week’s chart reveal. Once again starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, the film introduces us to Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, and Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2 in an outstanding performance. The film is a gory, violent, action-packed ride that also contains some genuine moments of humor. And I completely enjoyed it. However, it isn’t for everyone.

FAST 9 RACES BACK AGAIN!

It seems as if Vin Diesel has put some more fuel in the tank as ‘Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga‘ moves to take this week’s third position. The tenth film in the now twenty-year-old franchise has once again been a resounding success. Although nowhere near the best entry in the saga, it remains an enjoyable romp. If you see it with your expectations that it will fit in with the other films, then you’ll have a great time. If you’re expecting Oscar-winning performances and genuine drama, then you are in the wrong place and have bought the wrong film. Completely outlandish, slightly juvenile but great popcorn entertainment, it is a worthy purchase. My advice is to grab the director’s cut as it’s eight minutes longer.

BLACK WIDOW BATTLES BACK!

We all thought she was done. Not so fast! Scarlett Johansson has battled back from the brink of chart elimination. Her swansong as ‘Black Widow’ has fought its way back up the chart by six places to claim the fourth spot this week. Despite being available for all subscribers on Disney+, the film continues to sell well on all formats. Although we know we won’t see her demise in the film, we still find ourselves gripping the armrests of our seats during proceedings. With an exceptional performance from Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, the new ‘Black Widow’ moving forward, the film is a thoroughly entertaining ride.

JUNGLE CRUISE DROPS ANCHOR AT NUMBER FIVE!

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt have decided to drop anchor this week as ‘Jungle Cruise’ holds firm in the fifth position. The big-screen adaptation of the classic Disneyworld ride, the film is fun for all the family. A rip-roaring adventure that will thrill everyone, it has been a great success for Disney this summer. It premieres for all Disney+ subscribers this Friday on ‘Disney+ Day’ but deserves a place in any home entertainment library.

THE COURIER MAKES A DELIVERY AT NUMBER SIX!

Rising by thirty places and making its chart debut this week in the sixth spot is ‘The Courier’. Based on a true story, Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the unassuming Greville Wynne, who is recruited into the Cold War by the British and US secret services to act as their liaison and work with a Soviet officer to put an end to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The film is highly enjoyable and is certainly worth watching.

SPACE JAM GETS DUNKED!

The live-action/ animated sequel ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ finds itself getting dunked this week. The film has dropped five places to continue its enjoyable antics from the seventh position.

THE CROODS LOSE!

The animated sequel ‘The Croods: A New Age’ sees its fortunes take another knock this week as it slips two places to end the week in eighth place.

ROLL THE DICE AND WE GET SNAKE EYES!

The only new entry this week enters the top ten in the ninth position. Based on digital downloads only, we welcome ‘Snake Eyes: G.I Joe Origins’ into the chart. The film is a spin-off of the G.I. Joe series centered around the character of Snake Eyes, played by Henry Golding. The film suffered from a severe critical mauling on its release. And it became one of this year’s biggest box office flops. But it is an entertaining film on the whole. And it is worth watching as it will pass the time quite nicely.

REYNOLDS’ FREE GUY IN FREE FALL!

And finally, one of the best films of the year lands in the tenth and final position on this week’s chart. Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Free Guy.’ drops two places to hang over the chart exit door. But it remains a terrific and completely entertaining comedy for the whole family.

IT’S OVER FOR ANOTHER WEEK!

And just like that, we are done! Time to get off of the chart ride for another week. My thanks for joining in the fun of the official top ten. And, as always…

Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
