Get ready for the rise of the world’s worst supervillain in Universal’s delayed comic sequel.

Let’s face facts. I LOVE the Minions. Those cute and often hilarious little yellow creatures make me roar and cry with laughter. First introduced in the original ‘Despicable Me’, they have gone on to have a film franchise of their own. Thanks to lengthy delays due to the pandemic, their second standalone film ‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru’ is finally being released on July 1st. Steve Carrell once again voices the character we all know and love. This time, Gru is now a 12-year-old in the film, following on from his brief cameo at the end of the first film. A new trailer for the film has been released. Grab a banana and sit back to see the Minions in action again:

THE PREMISE

The film takes place in the 1970s. Young Gru is dreaming of becoming a supervillain. Of course, being Gru, he is unsuccessful. But that changes when he meets the Minions. With the help of the little creatures, and in particular Kevin, Bob, Stuart, and Otto, he manages to build his very first evil lair. They also design their own weapons and start taking on their own missions. When the infamous supervillain group, The Vicious 6, ousts their leader, the legendary martial arts fighter Wild Knuckles, Gru sees his chance.

Gru, who is their most devoted fanboy, interviews to become their newest member. The Vicious 6 is not impressed by the diminutive, wannabe villain, but when Gru outsmarts and enrages them, he suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. With Gru on the run, the Minions attempt to master the art of Kung-Fu to help save him. And Gru discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.
