The SpiderVerse is about to get bigger, and we can expect the return of Venom and the Ghostbusters!
So far, CinemaCon has given the fans a terrific tease of what’s to come in the near future. From reveals of the poster for ‘The Expendables 4’, the final film in the franchise to feature Sylvester Stallone. With the poster for ‘John Wick Chapter 4’ plus footage from the new Brad Pitt film ‘Bullet Train’, every film fan can get excited. But it is the Sony slate that has thrown up some nice surprise announcements. And will send fans of several franchises into raptures.
TOM ROTH ANNOUNCES WHAT IS TO COME.
The head of Sony Pictures, Tom Roth gave the attendees some tantalizing prospects that are in the works. Although there were no further details regarding the films, it was announced that the ‘Venom’ and the ‘Ghostbusters.’ franchises would be receiving sequels. We can expect a ‘Venom 3’ to hit theaters sometime in the future. And we are in for a sequel to last year’s smash hit ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife.’ Those two announcements alone would be enough to stoke the appetites of the fans for moviegoing. But it was the announcement of a new solo MCU-affiliated film that has got everyone talking.

IT IS TIME FOR EL MUERTO!
That’s right, comic book fans. El Muerto is coming to the screen! The obscure character from Marvel comics will be making his debut in his own movie and will be played by Bad Bunny. For those not in the know, El Muerto, aka Juan Carlos, is a super-powered wrestler. He fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling contest and nearly unmasked the hero. That was before Spider-Man managed to sting him with a paralyzing poison. However, his life was saved by Spidey after his oppressor, El Dorado came to take his life. Together, El Muerto and Spider-Man teamed up to take on El Dorado together and defeated him. El Muerto’s film debut will mark the first Latin Superhero to get a film within the Sony/ Marvel universe. Bad Bunny had this to say about the role:
“I love wrestling! I grew up watching wrestling, and now I’m a wrestler. It’s the perfect role for me – it’ll be epic,”

SPIDER-MAN ENTERS THE SPIDERVERSE AGAIN!
That’s not all. We already knew that there was going to be a sequel to the smash-hit animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.’ But we are not getting one sequel, we are getting TWO! Although it has been delayed until June 23rd of next year, the first sequel, named ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ managed to screen fifteen minutes of footage at the presentation. It did originally have the ‘Part 1’ moniker attached to it. It doesn’t anymore. For there is a second sequel has been announced. And its title has been revealed as ‘Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse.’

This second sequel will swing into theaters on March 29th, 2024. It has also been revealed that where the first film took place in just one universe, the sequel actually takes place in six. It certainly seems as if Sony wants to explore every avenue it can in the two sequels. And bring the comic books to the screen for every Spider-Fan.
