The title for the latest Mission: Impossible film is revealed plus the first screening of Top Gun: Maverick sees Paramount Pictures soar above the clouds at CinemaCon 2022!

It’s time to head back to CinemaCon. We have wondered exactly what the title of the new ‘Mission: Impossible.’ would be. We’ve waited thirty-Six years for a sequel to ‘Top Gun.’ And in one swoop, Paramount has put us out of our misery. Alongside several other titles the company has lined up, the big two starring Tom Cruise have made their bows. Alongside sizzle reels and trailers, the first screening of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has taken place. And the reaction to it gives us a bigger sense of excitement than before. Although not there in person, Cruise made his presence felt for the gathered audience. And unveiled two movies that will probably blow the box offices apart.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7s TITLE IS…..

Tom Cruise appeared at CinemaCon via a video he made. And in typical style, he had to do it while performing a stunt! Cruise was seen atop a crop duster that was in the air and flying. After delivering his video message, the plane decided to fly upside down with the actor still sitting on top of it. He also delivered the message he wanted to bring to the world. He announced the title for the new ‘Mission: Impossible.’ movie. And the official title is…‘Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part 1.’ After revealing the film’s title, the first trailer for the film was shown. It appears as if they are going all out on this one. The locations seen suggest the film will be going around the globe. Scenes included Tom Cruise in an old Mini Cooper, participating in a car chase.

Scenes during a Desert sandstorm, car chases through various locations. And the obligatory Tom Cruise action, this time with him running along the roof of a moving train. And the final shot of the trailer shows him performing a free fall from a motorcycle that just happens to be going off the edge of a cliff. We also got to see the return of Henry Czerny as Kitteridge for the first time since the original film. It is just a shame that we have to wait until NEXT summer to see it!

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES

Although there wasn’t a lot of footage to show, ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.’ managed to get a look-in during proceedings. The film stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Rege Jean Page doesn’t hit theaters until next March. But the assembled did manage to see some battle footage from the film. We still await a trailer for the movie but it does look like it could be a brilliant and exciting film that lies in wait for us.

A QUIET PLACE PREQUEL

A prequel to ‘the pair of ‘A Quiet Place’ movies is in the works. It will hit screens next year. And its title will be ‘A Quiet Place: Day One.’ Not much else is known about the project. No news on who will be starring in the film or who is writing it. It could star Emily Blunt and John Krasinski once again or it could go in a different direction. We won’t know any more about the film until further news is announced.

TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS

The assembled also managed to get a sneak peek atTransformers: Rise Of The Beasts.’ The film looks to be more in line with the ‘Bumblebee’ spin-off than any of the Michael Bay-directed films. The looks of the robot characters remain the same as they did in the spin-off movie. And the film looks to be more of a character-driven piece than an all-out action blockbuster.

BABYLON

The film that many believe will be at the forefront of next year’s Oscars is ‘Babylon.’ The film, starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie is set at the end of the silent movie era. And it seems that the film is most certainly going to be R-rated. On show are a fair amount of sex, drugs, and alcohol, and it seems that the film will focus on the shadier side of 1920s Hollywood. It looks as if Pitt is playing either an actor or director in the film while Margot Robbie looks as if she is playing the silent movie icon, Clara Bow. Clara Bow was one of the top stars in 1920s Hollywood until the latter half of the decade when her star fell due to the end of the silent era. She went from an ‘It Girl’ to a nobody overnight. The film looks to be a love letter to the silent age of Hollywood while showing the more decadent side of all those who lived through it.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK

We end as we started. With Tom Cruise. Finally, after thirty-six years of waiting, the last two thanks to the pandemic, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has seen the light of day. And from the reactions of those in attendance, the wait has been worth it. The consensus is the film is a throwback to the 1980s. It is said to be completely fun and with a heavy sense of nostalgia to it. Tom Cruise is earning rave reviews for his return as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. And the flying sequences are said to be completely mind-blowing. It is also said the film is a highly emotional affair but needs to be experienced on the biggest screen possible.

The movie is said to be a real crowd-pleaser and one that would have made the late director Tony Scott (Director of the original Top Gun) proud. The reviews of the film are embargoed at the moment but social media responses are not. The general feeling amongst critics is that the film more than lives up to the original. This means that May 27th (The 25th in the United Kingdom) cannot come soon enough.
