This week on The Official Film Chart, Spider-Man swings back up, and the chart turns red, but the top spot is still Uncharted!
Welcome to The Official Film Chart.
MORBIUS TO HIT DIGITAL AND THE DISC FORMATS THIS MONTH?
Although it hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, it looks as if the Sony/ Marvel film ‘Morbius’ MAY be hitting home entertainment this month. It certainly is in the United States and there is a good possibility that it may replicate that in the UK. From what I’m hearing, the film will bypass the PVOD market and head straight onto the digital download and physical formats. To be honest with you all, I can’t say I’m surprised.
Jared Leto plays the main character of Michael Morbius. He has a rare blood disease for which he is seeking a cure. However, after injecting himself with vampire bat DNA, Morbius undergoes a frightening transformation. Morbius becomes a living vampire, craving blood and with all the traits and abilities a bat has. The film, while passable, isn’t a good entry into the Sony/ Marvel stable. And the box office grosses back that up. Instead of launching a franchise for the character, it is more likely that he will appear in a supporting role from now on.

THE OFFICIAL CHART
This week’s chart goes the way we all expected. We say hello to a new title. We say a sad goodbye to one. And it’s the turn of ‘Moonfall’ to depart us this week. But what is occupying the top spot? Is the number one still in uncharted territory? Is it been covered in spider’s webs once more? Is it singing, by any chance? Grab a coffee and sit back as we find out.
THE TOP OF THE CHART REMAINS UNCHARTED!
For the second week in a row, the top place remains ‘Uncharted.’ The blockbuster, adapted from the best-selling video game series, stars Tom Holland as fortune hunter Nathan Drake. Drake teams up with his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to locate the treasure of the lost Magellan expedition. But things get complicated when Nate and Sully cross corrupt billionaire Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) and his henchwoman Jo Braddock (Tati Gabrielle) who seek to claim the treasure for themselves. The film has been a success at the box office and a sequel is already in the planning stages. Not bad for a film that has taken over a decade to hit the big screen.

SING 2 REMAINS CROONING FROM NUMBER TWO!
Still singing for its chart life and remaining in the second position is the animated sequel ‘Sing 2.’ The Universal family film has certainly enjoyed itself inside the chart ever since it hit the placings. And families across the country have lapped up the further adventures of Buster Moon and his team. The home entertainment release comes loaded with bonus features that will keep the family occupied for hours. And will give the youngsters hours of fun. They may even manage to persuade mum to join in with the dance extras that bump up the disc.

SPIDER-MAN WEBS BACK UP A PLACE!
You can’t keep our friendly neighborhood web-slinger down for too long! Webbing himself up two places to return to the third position is ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ The third solo effort with Tom Holland incorporating Spidey’s suit is by far the best. It harkens back to the original Sam Raimi movies as well as the Marc Webb versions. And by bringing in the villains of those movies as well as Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield, the movie is a runaway success. And that’s without mentioning Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. The twist and turns of the plot, the return of the classic characters, and some jaw-dropping special effects make this a must-watch movie. And as for the climax…

DUNE GETS BLOWN BACK UP THE CHART!
Another big-budget blockbuster that refuses to stay down is ‘Dune.’ The multi-award-winning science fiction epic moves two places up the chart to take the fourth place. The buying public cannot get enough of the sheer scope and scale that the film boasts. They appear to have taken Denis Villeneuve’s vision of the classic Frank Herbert novel to their hearts. And to think, the film only covers the first half of the book. The sequel is now in production ahead of an October 2023 release. The battle scenes in this first part are exemplary. But the second half of the book and the subsequent film contain more action than we have yet seen. And it could yet be an even bigger spectacle than the first movie.

JACKASS FOREVER HANGS IN AT NUMBER FIVE!
Rounding out this week’s top five placings, the gross-out but completely hilarious ‘Jackass Forever’ refuses to move. The film, the fourth big-screen outing for Johnny Knoxville and his team of reprobates holds onto the fifth position. You don’t need me to tell you what the film is about or contains. By now, everyone will know what to expect. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that despite all the grossness and wince-inducing the film contains, it remains outrageously funny. Just a word to the wise though. See it before you eat anything. Afterwards, you’ll either have no appetite or, if you have eaten before watching the movie, be prepared to probably see your food again. And not in a good way!

THE SIXTH PLACE IS TURNING RED!
Our only new entry this week lands in the sixth position. Thanks to hitting the physical formats after only being available to stream on Disney+, we say hello to ‘Turning Red.’ The delightful Disney/ Pixar animated movie is a wonderful one for the whole family. Set in Toronto, Ontario in 2002, it follows Meilin “Mei” Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian student. Mei suffers from a hereditary curse. This forces her to transform into a giant red panda when she expresses any strong emotion. The film deserves to be seen after its very limited cinematic run. It was shown in cinemas where Disney+ is not available. But for such a wonderfully enjoyable film, it deserved better treatment.

DEATH ON THE NILE ANCHORS ITSELF FOR ANOTHER WEEK!
The new adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel ‘Death On The Nile’ finds that its anchor is secure for another week. The film, once again starring Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, remains a non-mover in the seventh position. A third adventure for Branagh as the Belgian detective is currently in the works. However, what it will be has yet to be revealed.

BELFAST DROPS FAST!
Two weeks ago, it was ‘Scream’ that made a dramatic drop down the chart. This week, it is the turn of the Oscar-Winning comedy/drama ‘Belfast.’ The film, written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, which won him an Oscar for best original screenplay, falls five places to end the week in the eighth position.

NO CHANCE OF RESURRECTION FOR THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS!
The fourth film in the franchise ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ sees itself almost completely erased from the top ten systems. The film, once again starring Keanu Reeves, drops another place as it ends the week downloading itself into the ninth spot on the chart.

DOWNTON ABBEY REMAINS STATELY IN THE TENTH SPOT!
And finally, thanks to its sequel doing the business at the box office, the original ‘Downton Abbey-The Movie’ remains open. The film is a non-mover as it remains in the tenth and final place in the chart.

END OF THE LINE!
And it is here where we must all change, please! Our trip through chart territory has come to an end. It is time to wonder what will be hitting the chart next week. And what will be making themselves known on the digital download market? ‘The Batman’ isn’t that far away from hitting the physical formats so we can expect to see it arrive on digital to buy very soon. No exact date has been revealed as yet but it will possibly be within the next two weeks. As soon as I find out, I shall let you know. But until next week…
Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
