Star Trek Lower Decks Beams Down For Season 3 This August

The crew of the U.S.S Cerritos will return in the third season of the hilarious animated series. But there’s a surprise in store for fans of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds!

I grew up watching ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’, and ‘Star Trek: The Animated Series.’ Both had me hooked with every episode they ever produced. But I never thought I’d ever see an animated series like ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks,’ Not only does it contain some adult humor than we have ever seen, but it is also a riot with every episode. The third season debuts on Thursday, August 25th on Paramount Plus in the U.S while Prime Video will show the season across the rest of the world at a TBD date. The trailer for the third season has been beamed down to us at San Diego Comic-Con. Hold onto the deck, this could be a bumpy ride:

THE POSTER

The poster for the new season has been released. And it is a riff on the poster for ‘Star Trek III: The Search For Spock’ in a brilliant way:

THE PREMISE

Star Trek: Lower Decks challenges the U.S.S. Cerritos ensigns in (hilarious) ways they could never imagine, starting with a shocking resolution for season two’s epic cliffhanger finale.

RETRO ART

CROSSOVER

Now, don’t ask me how this is going to work. At all. But the animated cast of ‘Lower Decks’ will be playing live-action versions of their characters in a ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ crossover episode. Now, considering ‘Lower Decks’ is set in the ‘Next Generation’ era while ‘Strange New Worlds’ is set at least 100 years before it, it seems as if the old time travel trick will be coming into play. But how the crew of the Cerritos manages to end up on the U.S.S Enterprise is anyone’s guess. It could be a great episode. But that’s as long as they don’t turn it into a jokey, comedic episode.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode Stills

‘Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3’ will be available on Paramount Plus in the United States on August 25th. Other territories will have to wait for an announcement as to when it will be available in their countries.
