Kenneth Branagh unveils another all-star cast for his third outing as Hercule Poirot in A Haunting In Venice.
It’s time to get those little gray cells working again. Kenneth Branagh has announced that he will be returning as Agatha Christie’s Belgian Sleuth Hercule Poirot for a third mystery. This time though, it will be an adaptation of one of the author’s lesser-known tales ‘Hallowe’en Party’ into a movie entitled ‘A Haunting In Venice.’ Branagh will also be returning as director once again. And he has recruited Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarico, and Michelle Yeoh as his cast.
THE PREMISE
Set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, A Haunting in Venice is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.
KENNETH BRANAGH
After the news broke, director and star Kenneth Branagh had this to say about the new film:
“This is a fantastic development of the character Hercule Poirot, as well as the Agatha Christie franchise. Based on a complex, little-known tale of mystery set at Halloween in a pictorially ravishing city, it is an amazing opportunity for us, as filmmakers, and we are relishing the chance to deliver something truly spine-chilling for our loyal movie audiences.”
STEVE ASBELL
The President of 20th Century Studios, Steve Asbell also commented on the project, saying:
“We are enormously privileged to continue our long collaboration with the incomparable Sir Kenneth Branagh and couldn’t be more excited by the bold new creative direction Ken, Michael, and the rest of the filmmaking team have taken with this latest film. We also remain grateful to James Prichard and the rest of our friends at Agatha Christie, Ltd., for their partnership and for once again entrusting us with, as Poirot modestly calls himself, ‘probably the greatest detective in the world.’”
‘A Haunting In Venice’ is currently in pre-production ahead of filming in London and location shooting in Venice and will be released at a future date. The sequel will represent Branagh’s third outing as the world’s greatest super-sleuth following the success of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. Will A Haunting in Venice be third time lucky for the director? Only time will tell. Either way, keep checking back at The Future Of The Force for any further news on this exciting story.
