Rumors suggest that Wonder Woman 3 isn’t moving forward, Black Adam won’t get a sequel, no Man Of Steel 2, and Aquaman is about to swim his last. What is going on at DC?
Author’s Note-After we published the below article, James Gunn posted on social media regarding The Hollywood Reporter’s story:
So. As for the story yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter, some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.

We all love a rumor or two if it’s something that we can get excited about. But the latest rumor coming out of Warner Bros. regarding the DCU is extremely concerning. Reports suggest that the whole DC Universe is about to be reset under the new management of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
This would entail the Snyderverse being consigned to history along with the actors who play the iconic characters. After the debacle over the Batgirl movie, this isn’t the news the fans wanted to hear. Or expected. So, what do we know and what could it mean going forward?
WONDER WOMAN 3 IS NO LONGER MOVING FORWARD
The third film in the Patty Jenkins/ Gal Gadot Wonder Woman solo films is OFF. The news comes a day after Gal Gadot issued a social media post saying how she was looking forward to sharing the next chapter in the franchise with the fans. It has been reported that Patty Jenkins delivered her treatment for the third film to Warner Bros., only to be told the project was dead in its current form.
This is concerning as it could be the opening salvo in the new way forward at DC Films. Understandably, they may have trepidation after the response to Wonder Woman 1984, but removing the character like this is troubling.

BLACK ADAM 2 IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN
Dwayne Johnson brought us his version of Black Adam back in October. The film was a success at box offices around the world. Despite reports, the film was a failure, it made between $50-$75 million in profits. The world was promised more of the character moving forward and Johnson had the franchise mapped out for the future. Rumors now suggest that the film is a one-and-done deal. It is being reported that a sequel to the film is unlikely to happen.
This is again not what we expected to hear. The film had the set-up in place for a sequel, including the mid-credits return of Henry Cavill as Superman. This was the set-up for the pair to fight in a future movie. Now it appears that hope has been dashed. And speaking of the Man Of Steel…

MAN OF STEEL 2 IS UP IN THE AIR
A few days after the release of Black Adam, Henry Cavill posted on social media that he was indeed back as Superman in the DCU. We heard that he had filmed a cameo for next year’s The Flash movie in September. And after his announcement, we were all ready for more of Cavill as the last son of Krypton. That now sounds unlikely. It is being reported that Cavill’s cameo in The Flash may not even make the final cut. It appears Warners are undecided about whether to include it in the film. More bothersome, however, is the rumor that Man Of Steel 2 is currently up in the air.
The decision hasn’t been made whether to continue with Cavill as Superman or to completely reset once again. Cavill recently quit his lead role in The Witcher series, with the consensus that it was due to his commitments as Superman with Warners. Now it appears that the DCU will continue without him in the role. Again, this is not good news for the fans or Cavill himself. And smacks of hypocrisy.
AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM TO BE MOMOA’S FAREWELL?
It is also rumored that next December’s Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will bring an end to Jason Momoa’s time as the king of the seven seas. The rumors are swirling that after the movie is released, the reset button will be pushed to banish all the Snyderverse cast for good. Momoa is still being rumored for the role in DC’s Lobo movie, so he could still come out of this with a role in future projects. But again, these rumors are not what we expected or wanted to hear.

THE BATMAN SEQUEL AND PEACEMAKER
One aspect of this rumored reset that WON’T be affected is the Matt Reeves Batman universe. After this year’s The Batman became a hit and cemented the Dark Knight’s place in the DCU, It is being reported that his franchise won’t be touched or interfered with under the new regime. Reeves is busy writing the sequel to this year’s monster hit which starred Robert Pattinson in the lead role. Nor will the new regime touch The Penguin spin-off series for HBO Max which will see Colin Farrell return as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot/The Penguin.

When it comes to Peacemaker, that is a given. James Gunn created the series, is hard at work writing the second season of the show, and won’t let his baby go. John Cena’s role as the title character is assured for at least another season or two. Plus the show was a huge success for HBO Max, was greeted with great enthusiasm by the fans, and is a sure-fire winner. It will be strange though if the rumors are true. The final episode of the first season featured cameo appearances from Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Surely Gunn will understand that when he renders his final vision.

FINAL THOUGHTS
This is ALL RUMOR at this point. We won’t know the real truth until James Gunn and Peter Safran present their plan for the DCU for the next ten years to WBD next week. When it comes to Batman and Peacemaker, we already know where their futures lay. But the rest of the DCU COULD be seriously under threat. And I emphasize the COULD. We must now wait to hear the truth of the matter. Gunn has a history with DC already after The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker respectively. Add to that, Margot Robbie and Gunn have been talking about future projects concerning Harley Quinn going forward, so it seems her role is assured.

But it sounds like the cast of the Snyderverse is being cast aside under the new regime. When it comes to Ezra Miller, it’ll probably be the end of the road for him after The Flash is released, due to the well-reported incidents that have happened with him off-screen. But for Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Momoa, the future SEEMS to be less clear.
And that also doesn’t take into account the future of Zachary Levi as Shazam after his second movie opens next year. What lies in store for him? Is he in danger of being pushed aside too? In my opinion, I wouldn’t cast aside any of the actors who play the characters at all. They don’t deserve that. We can only hope that the rumors are FALSE. Or the DCU COULD be in serious trouble. But until everything is finally confirmed, we must take the news with a very large pinch of salt.
