Hot Toys Review | Mace Windu (Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones)

Even though the headsculpt isn’t perfect, this is undoubtedly the best Hot Toys Mace Windu figure we have ever gotten from any brand.

Finally, the long-awaited Mace Windu Hot Toys figure from Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones has arrived! But does it live up to the anticipation? Let’s go beyond the box and find out.

THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES

On the outside, it seems like your usual Star Wars collectibles box – it’s black with a promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. But it’s taller than the average box. Mace Windu is a part of the line of figures announced for the 20th anniversary of Attack of the Clones. As such, you get the special anniversary box we have seen with several figures. It’s a vintage-style inspired box, which is always lovely to see. The usual Star Wars box is too simple for me, while this one is more colorful and attracts the eye.

Mace Windu may be a figure from Attack of the Clones, but he also comes with accessories to recreate his look from the first seasons of The Clone Wars. We may not get another Mace figure, so Hot Toys packed everything they could with this one. The display base is your usual Star Wars interior base. However, you get a piece of plastic on which they printed the floor from the Jedi Council room. It’s a glossy base. When you watch the films, this is the impression it gives. It’s a more fitting environment for this figure. This is the base I will use.

HANDS ON!

Then, he has nine hands, including four with the armor piece for The Clone Wars look – you get two gesture hands, one Force hand, and two different hands to hold the lightsaber. And for a second look, you get two hands to hold the lightsaber, one gesture, and one Force hand. Like all the recent Star Wars figures, Mace Windu has an LED USB-powered lightsaber. All you need for it to work is a USB-C cable and somewhere to plug it, whether it is a power bank or a plug socket. With this, he also has his standard hilt. It’s a nicely detailed hilt with excellent paint application. Shiny as it should be. You have two blades – the normal one and the action one.

Moreover, he has his Jedi signature robe with really long sleeves. This one doesn’t have wires inside, so you can’t pose. His Clone Wars look includes a pair of clone forearm armor. One has the Jedi symbol, while the other has all the buttons with the comlink. Finally, you get a holocaster with a small Yoda hologram. It’s an accessory that is often included with Jedi figures.

THE FIGURE

I have been waiting so long to get a Hot Toys Mace Windu figure! I had the Sideshow Collectibles one that was released years ago, but clearly, it’s not the same quality as a Hot Toys figure. So, I am glad we finally have this Jedi. I hope it’s the start of getting a lot more Jedi. Next year, we should have Kit Fisto. I would surely love Plo Koon and Ki-Adi Mundi to join them.

Hot Toys nailed the costume. They picked the right shade of brown. The length of the tunic is accurate. He has pleather boots, so you know what that means. That’s what we got with Anakin, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan. The only other part of the outfit using pleather is the belt. The rest of the outfit uses simple fabric. While the robe doesn’t have wires, the tunic has wires, which means you can adjust the skirt for action poses. This is pretty cool.

Changing Mace Windu into his Clone Wars look is quick and easy. After all, it’s only a minor tweak. He also looks great with his clone armor. I will definitely switch between displaying him like this, with his basic Jedi outfit and with the Jedi robe.

THE HEADSCULPT

The headsculpt is pretty good. It’s the best Mace Windu I have seen from any brand. They captured Samuel L. Jackson’s likeness, but it’s not perfect. Depending on the angle, it looks better or worse. Considering it may be the only Mace Windu figure, I wish they had included the separate rolling eyeballs.

VERDICT

Even though the headsculpt isn’t perfect, this is undoubtedly the best Mace Windu figure we have ever gotten from any brand. You can display him with his Prequels or Clone Wars look, which isexcellentt. This is a must-buy for Star Wars fans.
