Documenting one of the world’s most elaborate and sophisticated catfish scams, Sweet Bobby is currently in production at Netflix.

Netflix is in production on a documentary film about one of the world’s most elaborate and sophisticated catfish scams, Sweet Bobby. Based on the popular podcast series of the same name from Tortoise Media, the feature film will tell the story of how broadcaster Kirat Assi became embroiled in an impossibly complex web of deception that lasted for over a decade and involved over 60 fabricated characters

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

When Kirat meets ‘Bobby’ on Facebook and embarks on a long-distance relationship with him, she believes she has found the love of her life. As it evolves from a friendship to an increasingly controlling romantic relationship, Kirat becomes subsumed into a web of deception, as Bobby’s explanations for why they cannot meet face to face become more and more extreme. What unfolds is a modern-day fable about some of the dangers of finding love in the digital age.
